So my wife was saying to me last week, "Isn't that new Bond girl really
young compared to Daniel Craig?" As I just finished up a dissertation,
of course I wanted to do some more research so I have compiled an
age-based analysis of Bond and His Women. In researching this, I
noticed there were a couple of threads on this topic last spring, I'm
glad to see others have considered these issues.
my results and conclusions:
# Average age of Bond actors: 43 2/3
# Average age of Bond at the beginning of run: 38
# Average age of Bond Girls: 29
# Average age of Connery-Bond Girls: 28.5 (27.4 not counting NSNA)
# Average age of Connery-Bond: 37.8 (35.3 not counting NSNA)
# Average age of Moore-Bond Girls: 30
# Average age of Moore-Bond: 51.8
# Average age of Brosnan-Bond Girls: 30.5
# Average age of Brosnan-Bond: 47.8
# Average age difference: 14 3/4
Analysis and observations
# Roger Moore really throws things off with his "looks younger than
Connery but is actually 3 years older" act.
# Note that Bond was w/ older women 3 times, once when she was his
(future) wife. But I guess Lazenby is supposed to be playing older than
he is (he was actually 29 when this was filmed -- half Roger Moore's
age for AVTAK). I'm fine w/ Bond being with older women; I think Bond
would be fine with any woman that didn't bring to mind The Graduate (or
even Top Gun).
# Interesting that Bibi in FYEO is the one that Bond finds to be too
young, when Lynn Holly Johnson is only 1 year younger than Carole
Bouquet (Melina). I guess that's the value of being to pass for young.
# I recall very well that when TLD came out the press made a big deal
of Dalton's desire that Bond not be bed-hopping. But for most of
Moore's movies Bond's bedpost isn't too notched, it seems.
# Note that Moore's lowest age difference was 10 and even Octopussy,
who's supposed to be more his equal, is 18 years younger.
# Greatest age range for the girls in a movie: 16 in GF or 17 in OP (if
you believe Tina Hudson was 46).
# Conclusions: Bond has to be in his 30s (at least) or he's not
believeable as an accomplished agent. The girls have to be eye-candy,
which usually means 20s. If there are multiple girls, one can be much
younger but Bond usually ends up with the more mature one.
So after several hours of research, table formatting and analysis, I
can say to my wife, "No, she's not that much younger than Daniel Craig.
Her age difference is actually less than the average."

This age issue seems to come up like clockwork. Usually it's a male
complaining it's unseemly to watch an aged Bond actor get romantic with
a younger actress. Rarely have I seen women complain about it. But your
analysis was kind of interesting and blessedly free of any preaching
about the matter.
