With a younger Bond, no age-gap complaints this time. [message #227481] Mi, 22 Februar 2006 21:32

Anyway, with a 37-year-old Daniel Craig (he turns 38 in a few weeks)
and a 25-year old Eva Green, it's only a 12-year age difference this
time, Pierce Brosnan at 52 is old enough to be Eva's father (27-year
age
difference). I remember reading somewhere, that way back when, during

a FYEO press conference, about 23-year old Carole Bouquet complaining
about the 30 year gap between her and 53-year old Roger Moore. With
a younger Bond, hopefully we won't hear many age-related complaints
this time, just the standard "Craig is not handsome enough" complaints.

:)

Ages of women that Bond kisses/beds in each Brosnan movie: (give or
take a year, IMDB is not always right)

GE (Pierce Brosnan is 42)
Izabella Scorupco (25)
Famke Janssen (29)
Serena Gordon (32)
Biggest age gap (w/Izabella Scorupco): 17 years

TND (Pierce Brosnan is 44)
Cecilie Thomsen (22)
Teri Hatcher (32)
Michelle Yeoh (35)
Biggest age gap (w/Cecilie Thomsen): 22 years

TWINE (Pierce Brosnan is 46)
Denise Richards (27)
Sophie Marceau (32)
Serena Scott Thomas (38)
Biggest age gap (w/Denise Richards): 19 years

DAD (Pierce Brosnan is 49)
Rosamund Pike (23)
Halle Berry (36)
Samantha Bond (39)
Biggest age gap (w/Rosamund Pike): 26 years

As you can see, Pierce was getting into Roger Moore territory by the
time DAD rolled around.
Interestingly enough, I never heard any huge complaints about the huge
age-gap between Pierce and Rosamund (due to Rosamund looking very
mature), while I heard countless complaints about the considerably
smaller age gap between Pierce and Denise (due to Denise looking she
was still in college). Pretty funny.

I didn't pay much attention to age-gap criticisms of TWINE, so maybe I
just don't have my finger on the pulse of that issue. I kept hearing
Denise Richards was simply wrong for any kind of scientist, much less a
nuclear one (a criticism I shared).

As far as the age-gap issue goes, though, I think I only thought it
went a bit too far during AVTAK; Roger, God bless him, was just not
believable as the older man Allison Doody and Grace Jones were *both*
going to be into (Tanya Roberts, however, I bought). And I think they
did a nice job acknowledging the issue in FYEO with the Bond/Bibi
subplot.

Had Pierce returned for CR, and had they still cast Eva Green, I think
I would have bought it. Pierce can still turn a young lady's eye; my
wife will attest to that! We're in Eva's age bracket, so I figure if
she thinks Pierce is hot, I can believe it from an actress in a
fictitious role in a fictitious movie.

All that said, I think the most convincing on-screen relationship
Pierce has been in that I've seen was with Rene Russo in "The Thomas
Crown Affair." Great chemistry there.

She was laughable in the role, nuff said.

Yeah, but Roger Moore came off as more of a grandfather, which was a bit
unsettling to me, lol

I agree. Rene Russo is by no means a spring chicken but she is one sexy
woman. Now that I think about it, she would have been one great Bond girl,
or woman ;-) I could picture her as the modern day Diana Rigg in OHMSS.

Didn't Brosnan and Richards win a Razzie for Worst Screen Couple?

When Pierce heard about Richards being cast, he must have been like, "Oh
yeah, they are going for drama." lol

Your last paragraph (but not the comment before it), echoes my
sentiments exactly.

Yeah, well, now Denise Richards is in her mid-30s and looks like she's
in her mid-20s. As an aside, with her divorcing Charlie Sheen, I
have a feeling she's going to rebound with some 22-year old
model/waiter (a la Mira Sorvino). Check the tabloids in a few
months. :)

As for Rosamund Pike, she's pretty much moved beyond Bond, she's had
some very nice roles in movies that appeal to guys (Doom, where she got
to do an American accent) and movies that appeal to girls (Pride and
Prejudice, where she held her own with Keira Knightley). She's
definitely got some good acting chops; with her youth (27) and elegant
beauty, look for her to make more noise in Hollywood in the years to
come.

P.S. Yes, I admit I saw "Pride and Prejudice" (and loved it) and no, I
was not the only guy in the theater. :)

That surprises me, 'cause personally I can't fathom any reason why
a guy would want to see a movie featuring the likes of Keira Knightley
and Rosamund Pike dressed in corsets... ;-)

Best

Or perhaps Pierce still looking pretty good at 49.

Co-starring in Doom is not what you would call a good career move.

Her casting practically ruined the movie for me. And the Christmas joke at
the end of the movie has to be the single worst Bond joke ever, lol

Ha ha ha. Yeah, well, as beautiful as Keira and Rosamund are, P&P,
like any movie based on a Jane Austen novel, had "chick flick" written
all over it. But the movie got such excellent reviews that I decided
to check it out, I certainly didn't regret it.

That said, there are still "chick flicks" that you couldn't drag me to
if you paid me, no matter how beautiful the female leads are, like that
"In Her Shoes" movie, for instance. Or "Just Like Heaven." Or "Must
Love Dogs," the list goes on.
