I would like to see this on Graham's website so that we can compare
it to other ships. I would love to see pictures. Over 80 decks! Damn
I hope they have high-speed turbo lifts.

Why must everybody design super-big, super-powerful
battleships? I'm only shocked that this one doesn't
have slipstream or transwarp drive or something.
Not that it isn't fun designing ships like this, you
should see the four nacelled-Sovereign I came up with
once. But nobody ever designs a five deck science
vessel!
I did actually once offer to start including fan designs
on the site, but nobody ever submitted any so I never got
the chance. I don't know if I'd do it now.

I think man has always wanted to conquer the elements and
wanted to build bigger, faster, better. Look at the QM2! I
would love to sail on it but hate the idea of having to dress
up to do it!
Anyway, this thing would be about half the size of a Borg
Cube wouldn't it?

The real problem with ships like this is that they don't
really make a lot of sense. For the resources needed to
build this, you would be able to build at least a hundred
Galaxy class ships, or closer to two hundred Sovereigns.
Two hundred Sovereigns could whup a ship like this easily,
but could also do a hundred different things at once if
you wanted them to. It would be a way more flexible force
to have than one huge uber-ship.
> Anyway, this thing would be about half the size of a Borg
> Cube wouldn't it?
In length it's about the same as a cube, only fifty metres
or so shorter. In volume it would be much, much smaller.

The USS Fearless is really a juggernaut, but since Starfleet would never
label a ship as such I chose the hull classification heavy dreadnought.
The Defiant class is a warship, but I believe it is classified as an escort,
so there is a precedent for applying "not quite so accurate" hull
classifications to Starfleet ships.
If you thought this version was powerful, you should have seen the "Terran"
upgrade - for permanent patrol near Earth.. . .

That would just be silly : )

I know. That's one of the reasons I invented the "Enhanced Deterrance
Explorer" label for the Sovereign - I figured they were too PC to give
proper designations to their warshippy designs.

I'd like to...

No, I chucked it in the end. It was basically a Sovereign with
a bulked up engineering hull to accomodate a much larger warp
core; four nacelles, each about a third longer than the normal
Sovereign. I put another quantum launcher above and behind the
bridge, another on the base of the engineering hull, and
another under the aft hangar bay.
The most Uber-ship I ever did was one mile long, had transwarp
drive, warp drive and "Warp Hybrid Impulse" - WHIp - engines,
15 Type XX phaser arrays, a heavy torpedo launcher, plus four
combat drones which were more or less similar to the Cardassian
Dreadnought weapon we saw in Voyager. Triple-layer shielding
plus neutronium hull armour (the material was cut from the
hulk of the Doomsday Machine Kirk faced).
I still have that one. I can send you a pic if you like.

Is it on the internet where we can go see it? I'd like to.

Here's a pic :

I don't really design a lot of Trek ships; for fun I mostly
do designs for a sci-fi universe of my own. Most of those are
truly uber - I have a battleship design that's three miles long!

"Enhanced Deterrance Explorer" - I like that one. It really fits the
Sovereign.

*chuckles* I've got to work on it a little more, and clean it up a bit,
when it's finished i'll be sure to send it to you.

Very interesting, I always thought Fed ships were underpowered myself.
Yes! More quantum torp launchers! I'm sure some of that extra engineering
hull space will accommodate a larger torp magazine. The Sovereign in
"Nemesis" ran out of munitions very quickly.

Wow, puts my ship to shame! I always liked the idea of "brilliant" missiles
like the Cardie Tactical Dreadnought. The closest I came to that was the a
holographic decoy (similar to what was seen on ST:VOY) episodes to draw away
enemy fire.
I wonder though, how does one cut neutronium hull armor?

Please, I am most curious, send it to me at john1n2w3e [at] hotmail.com

I thought so. I came up with a bunch of others for
the different types, but none of them really sounded
as good.

Indeed. I thought that was a rather humiliating thing to
have happen actually. It's one thing to have an enemy damage
you and take the weapons offline, that's always happening in
Trek. But to actually run out of weapons?
But then Trek ships have always been woefully equipped with
torpedo casings given their size. I worked out once that you
can fit 600 photons comfortably on a basketball court, so a
Galaxy or Sovereign could easily take thousands if not tens
of thousands of them.

With great difficulty! :-)
It must be possible, if the Cardassians can make doors
out of the stuff.

Obviously with a neutronium hull armor cutter... How are diamonds cut?
With diamond... Now all we need to figure out is how to fold that armor
so it touches and it can cut itself ;-)

Get superman to do it...
Nah, some new type of cutter. Probably with a name that has
words like "trans" and "quantum" in it somewhere. That would
do it. :-)

Do you remember the HUGE ship that the Mirror Universe Worf
was commanding on DS9? That was a big ship! As a matter of
fact I think it was the biggest ship I have ever seen on Trek.
