You guys are all pretty weak if I'm really the first person to post this:
When Bart confronts the gym teacher with the frozen rubber ball, he does
the Kubrick Crazy Stare a la Gomer Pyle from Full Metal Jacket. The
background music in the episode then becomes a dead match for the same
background music during the scene in FMJ where Gomer Pyle shoots Drill
Sgt. Hartman in the soldiers barracks's bathroom. Like the drill
sergeant, the gym teacher screams the same line,"What is your Major
Malfunction!!!" and then orders Bart to unload and disarm his rifle, or
in this case, his frozen, water-filled rubber ball.
Of course, Bart, like Gomer Pyle in the movie, fires anyways. Gomer
doesn't miss.
C'mon, man! I can't believe I'm the only person to get this out of all
you Simpsons fans with your super metacultural, multimedia knowledge.
It's freakin' Stanley Kubrick here, one of the most referenced topics on
the Simpsons. It was one of his favorite tv shows! Hello, this guy
wasn't a big TV watcher!
The greatest film director of all time on the greatest TV program of all
time, which was one of his favorite shows on a medium he was not fond of.
AND YOU ALL MISSED IT!!!
I'm so ashamed of this newsgroup.

You must have missed the other post that mentioned this.
Nice rant, though. Pointless, but well written.

O.K., so I'm not the first, but mine is the first post that gets all of
the details right in the Full Metal Jacket reference. Besides, any
Kubrick reference in the Simpsons deserves major attention.
So not so pointless after all. Eh, Captain?
Who made you a captain anyways?

"What is your major malfunction" was also in the episode where Sideshow
Bob tries to explode the nuclear weapon. It was yelled by R. Lee Ermey
in that episode. And he has probably said it in real life a few times,
too. And not just on his show on the History Channel.
I am sure that most of us recognized "WHAT IS YOUR MAJOR MALFUNCTION"
right away. There are so many Kubrick references on OFF.
Ahhh, http://www.snpp.com/episodes/3F08.html, what would I do without
you?
The plane hits the shed and bounces off of it, knocking Sideshow Bob
and Bart to the ground. A tank rolls in and then over the plane,
crushing it.
Soldier: Ooh, sorry. We don't normally drive these in the Air Force.
Wiggum: [cuffing Bob] Got ya, ha ha, you...TV-hating mutant!
Hapablap: What is your major malfunction, Sideshow Bob?
Marge: [kisses Bart] My little sugar bug! [kisses] I'm so glad you're
safe!

Yes, Otto Preminger was on Batman. He played Mr. Freeze. Batman's a
scientist, BTW.

Arnold Schwarzenegger? Ha! The only true Mr. Freeze is George Sanders
or Otto Preminger.
