Big surprise: Ratings for Arrested finale were crap

It might be time to just nail shut Arrested Development's coffin and bury
the sucker.
It pains me to write that, but I just get the feeling that, given all the
talk that Friday's episodes were considered the "series finale" instead of
the "season finale", that we might just want to let the show go for good.
Once again, the viewing public seems to agree, as the AD mini-marathon
attracted only 3.3 million viewers, a little more than half its season
average of 6.5 million. And, according to this article by Joal Ryan of E!
Online, Mitchell Hurwitz has told Ryan's colleague Kristin Veitch that he is
"hesitant" about continuing, despite the offers he's considering from ABC
and Showtime.
3.3 million isn't a lot of people, folks (although it would be the
highest-rated cable show, ironically enough). It didn't help, of course,
that the last four episodes of Arrested Development were shown against the
opening ceremonies of the Turin Olympics. And Friday nights aren't exactly
big ratings nights; heck, I taped the shows because I was out that night
myself. So AD goes out with a bit of a whimper. Let's just be glad we got
2.5 seasons of high quality comedy and turn our sights somewhere else, shall
we?

Gee... imagine that... you take the show off the air for a month ...
without explanation ...
then you cram four episodes back to back --- without marketing or
advertising the fact that you're airing the episodes,
and the kicker, you put it up against the opening night ceremonies of
the Olympics.
I'm surprised 3.3 million people knew Arrested Development was still on
the air.
I wonder if the ratings count people who TiVoed it and watched it ...
as I did, being in New York.
Fox treated AD like a retarded adopted kid -- and it's a shame. But I
do agree -- if the show is done forever, I've still got the DVDs to
relive the magic.

Nobody watched it when it was on Sunday night either. Fox kept the show
on the air well beyond any chance of breaking even on the cost of
production.

Well If they kept it sandwiched between Simpsons and Family Guy,It would
probably still be on and Grounded for... I mean The War At Home would be
history.

No!!! Never!! I hold a grudge!!!!! Hate fox always will and always done.
This was the best show since Seinfeld and if people dont like it it is
their problem. (Well not entirely oc.) Still, it is an clever show that
demanded something from the watcher with no laughter to wake the herds
for every joke. Damn them damn them all!

agreed. "war at home" is such a tired premise and a complete waste of
Rappaport's talent. the punch lines are driven in like mud balls, the
characters are all annoying, the pace is like walking thru glue.
Arrested Development is the smartest thing to hit commercial tv
since...the Simpsons! and Family Guy. FOX has had it's share of
blunders, THE BEN STILLER SHOW being the most memorable, and it always
blames the ratings. are they still basing the ratings on the ancient
Nielson method? i mean, take a blind internet poll, it is the 21st
century after all. why should one family represent a million viewers?
the best story is the one about that new show that had Heather Graham in
it? the studio head watched the premier episode for 10 minutes, then
decided he didn't like it and cancelled the REST OF THE ENTIRE SEASON!
blah. network tv blows.
