Just wondering if this is a national thing or if it's just something my
local affiliate is doing. I think they've been running this for 3-4
weeks now, in addition to their long-running 5:30pm repeat.

A lot of stations run two episodes every weeknight.

Pretty much the same here, in south central Kentucky (not north, where the
Simpsons came from).
We have a 5:00 (CST) showing on an NBC affiliate, that was a Fox affiliate
until recently.
We have a 9:00 (CST) showing on a UPN affiliate (f. Nashville) that may have
once been Fox, or the WB or some damn thing... seems like people come up
with networks now the way the used to come out with home pages.
