As a huge fan of the Harry Potter books (not the films!), it seemed
only natural for me to write my final dissertation on adult Harry
Potter fans. If you are interested in taking part in my study, please
send me an email describing exactly what Harry Potter means to you, and
how the books have effected your life and relationships. Your
participation will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you for taking the time to read my post,

Interesting homework but aren't you supposed to do it yourself?

??? Sounds like she's doing a study (that is what she says)--you know,
where people fill out questionaires? Can't very well do that by yourself,
now, can you? Ok, I suppose you can, but it wouldn't add up to a meaningful
study, now would it! ;-)

Thanks Matt,
It's true that I'm doing a study on audiences for Harry Potter, not
Harry Potter itself, which definately requires other people's opinions.
Otherwise there's no point!

You might get more responses if you asked questions in another format
than having people write answer such an open-ended, "essay" type
format. People are more willing to do short answer or multiple choice.
Try http://www.surveymonkey.com/ or a similar site. Just a friendly
suggestion. Good luck with your project! Sounds like it will be a fun
paper to write!

Thanks a lot for that, I'll check out that site.
This is just my preliminary research. I will be asking those sort of
questions later on in my work. For now, I am asking for essay-type
responses in order to formulate those questions.

It's FICTION and ENTERTAINMENT. How can it possibly "affect" anyone's
life and relationships??????? Unless you are a poor soul with
absolutely nothing worth living for thus you must survive through the
FICTIONAL tales of FICTIONAL CHARACTERS lives...

You don't think that fiction and entertainment effects your life and
relationships?!

Huh? The appreciation of fiction and entertainment is usually a social
activity that is part of most people's lives and relationships. How can it
not affect them? Most of us who converse here would never have met if it
weren't for JKR's work. Many parents have reported that the HP books
kindled a love of reading in their kids, a love that gave them a shared
interest to pursue with their parents. I'd call that affecting a
relationship.

It entertains me while I am indulged in viewing or reading it. I kills
some time. It does not affect my *life* otherwise. The same as being on
this newsgroup occasionally. It kills a few minutes of time. It does
not affect my life except to give me a momentary diversion.

But how we kill time says as much about our lives as anything else.
Everything is meaningful.
