I'm trying to find a children's book about dragons. The problem is (of
course), I don't remember the title. Call me strange, but I just have
a vague memory of there being two dragon factions (across a body of
water from eachother, as I recall), and they are poised for battle.
There's a boy who acts as intermediary, or peacemaker of sorts. It was
in black and white, and the illustrations were amazing (the bat-like
wings of the dragons struck me the most). I also seem to recall that
there was an accidental death (or maybe it wasn't accidental--maybe the
dragon meant to kill) of a child (by falling from the dragon's
claws?)-and the death seemed to bring some kind of brewing crisis to a
head. I remember reading it as an early teen (I was born in '67), but I
don't know how long it had been in print at the time). I can't find it
on amazon (which isn't to say it's not there), and the local librarian
wasn't able to help me. Anyone have any suggestions, or remember the
book.? Any help would be appreciated!
