Warm Greetings from Down Under [message #221446] So, 19 Februar 2006 22:42
Fiona Bridges
Hi there,

I was just wondering where everyone is from? I'm a little red celtic dragon
from Australia who has tuned in thru from my bigpond news account. I
thought I was only reading messages Nationally but happily I was wrong and I
am seeing posts from friends internationally.

I am enjoying a scorching hot summer here at the moment while watching the
Winter Olympics in Torino, which makes me shiver, sadly we only have 1 medal
so far but us Aussie dragons are much better at our Summer sports.

Cheerio for Now,
Phenix

We have just under 1.5 inch of snow on the ground right now. It's
rather cold at the moment, the ground is mostly frozen. I don't watch
T.V. so I have no idea what is going on in the world of Olympics...

Some probably won't. Australia's original status as a penal colony
isn't quite as widely known outside the Commonwealth.

As for the language, FS, Aussies probably share more slang in common
with the UK than residents of either North American country. Comes of
all that swearing at one another during cricket matches. ;)

I think it is actually reasonably well-known--at least, I also knew it,
even before the Simpsons episode that mentioned it... ]:-8)~

Actually, cricket seems to be immensely popular in a number of former
British colonies--the US and Canada might be exceptions in this rather
than the norm. (I know several people from India and one from the
Caribbean who are obsessed with the sport.)

AFD has a reasonably diverse population--there seem to be quite a few
Here from the US, the UK, Canada, and Australia, but off the top of my
head I can think of regular posters on five continents. (I can't think
of anyone from Africa immediately, but I may just be blanking--or they
might have simply decided not to reveal their RL location online, a
decision I fully respect since I myself am rather paranoid. ]:-8)~ )

Oh, and since you asked, Phenix, I am from the USA. I've moved around a
bit but am currently in California.

They were rather naughty dragons, one female dragon "borrowed" a hanky and
another one liked silver spoons.

I prefer to think of them as naughty and misunderstand, while I'm probably
considered delusional.
