Here's a really really rare magazine interview. Yoda on the cover, a
hilarious interview with Sam Jackson pressing him on what he thought
about the trilogy and a very insightful interesting interview with
Anthony Daniels, who we all know is CEP0

Well, yeah, the text is online... but an online article is not a
collectible. You can't order a copy from that webpage and I have one I
am selling, so there.

Translation:

I'm just another eBay scam artist trying to get
people to spend far more than the item is really
worth by using the word "rare". In reality this
item is easily obtainable by anyone with a
microgram of common sense.

Unfortunately there's way too many people that fall for this kind of
selfish greediness, as proven by the ridiculous amounts paid for items
on eBay (aka ScamBay). :-(

It is also simply eBay spam which isn't wanted in newsgroups ... but
then you probably knew that which is why you're hiding behind
GoogleGroups and obscuring the address behind TinyURL. Both also most
likely more proof of a scam artist at work.

I don't see what the scam is. The magazine is from mid-2005. It isn't
available anywhere else in print. I haven't priced it through the roof.
It is about Star Wars. This is a forum about Star Wars. I want to get
this into the hands of someone who might want it. Lots of Star Wars
collectors read this forum. Therefore it makes perfect sense to post it
here. If you don't want a copy, fine, but plenty of people do and it's
priced fair.

A. It doesn't make "perfect sense" since eBay spam / advertising isn't
wanted in almost ALL the newsgroups or web forums.

B. It's not "very rare". Unless it was a "limited edition", it was
sold only around six months ago, so there's bound to be thousands
and thousands of them around if people bothered to look. Even if
it is a "limited edition", there's still usually thousands of
them anyway.

C. Fools who advertise items using such words are ALWAYS trying to
scam more money out of the unsuspecting buyers than the item is
really worth. (Often they've also purposely 'stolen' all the
items from every shop they can find so that they can scalp them
on ScamBay as "rare" or "hard to find".)

Well, this wasn't spam since it was 100% on topic.

There are not thousands of them. There are barely any. Seriously, if
you can find another one just like it, I'll give you $100. Honest.
START LOOKING and good luck.

Stolen? This is a rare item in mint condition that some Star Wars
collector is going to appreciate.

And I thank you for helping me get this thread more eyeballs. Please
reply again telling me how wrong it is to post a Star Wars topic in a
Star Wars thread. NOT.

What part of "ebat spam is not wanted here" do you not understand.

Whetehr you like it or not, eBay spam IS off topic in almost every
newsgroup and web forum, and is not wanted - end of story! These are
DISCUSSION newsgroups, not "sell your old crap" newsgroups. There are a
couple of newsgroups with "marketplace" or "for sale" in the topic name
- that's the ONLY place you should be posting eBay rubbish.

Geez, people can't read. I never said your particular item was stolen.
I said the scalpers buy up all the local items so they can then pretend
it's "rare".

As above, eBay auctions adverts ARE off topic in almost EVERY Usenet
newsgroup and web forum there is. They're simply annioying spam posted
by selfish idiots.

Since you've proven yourself to be nothing but a selfish idiot, that's
the end of this "discussion".

From this newsgroup's FAQ:
*6* ADVERTISEMENTS *6*

6.A - What falls into the category of advertisements?

An advertisement is defined as a notice designed to gain public attention or
patronage. This primarily applies to sales/auction posts as well as
trading/wanted posts but it could also include a number of other things. Web
site promotions are 'ok', but they are discouraged unless the site
correlates to AFS in some manner. XXX promotions are NOT ALLOWED. We also do
not care for eBay posts. When it comes to Star Wars toys please do not try
to sell them but the occasional conversation is not discouraged.

6.B - Why are my advertisements not wanted?

If we want to see what eBay has to offer, we'll visit the site. If we want
vintage action figures, we'll look on one of the collecting sites.
Advertisements clutter up the newsgroup disrupting the normal flow of
traffic on AFS.

6.C - Where should I post my advertisements?

Although advertisements might be considered unacceptable in other newsgroups
too you may reach a more receptive audience in one of the collecting groups
such as news:rec.arts.sf.starwars.collecting.misc or
news:rec.arts.sf.starwars.collecting.vintage.

6.D - What happens if I ignore these guidelines?

You will probably be flamed upon your first offence, and after repeat
offences, you will be killfiled (ignored). In either case you're unlikely to
generate any interest in your product in this newsgroup and therefore would
be wasting your time and energy, not to mention the fact that people may
decide to boycott your auctions altogether.

Believe me, this is NOT the kind of publicity you want (evidenced by the
fact that you've gotten not a single bid on this item). Coming into an
established group of regulars and telling them that you have every intention
of breaking their rules of conduct will get you nothing but trouble. In
fact, piss off the group enough and you might get someone riled up enough to
create a "throwaway" eBay ID, win your auction and neg you without
completing the transaction. (Not that I'm advocating anyone doing that . .
.. again ;-D)

I've never bothered with ScamBay at all, but many places have specific
rules (that few people actually read) against advertising the auctions,
referral / pyramid scams, etc. in places like newsgroups and web
forums, and if reported they can have their account shut down ...
assuming the idiots running the site actually bother to do anything,
and ScamBay probably does if "enough" people complain.
