I just watched the Voyager episode "One." It proved to me one thing:
Seven is the best character on Voyager. Who agrees with me on that?

Toss up between Seven and the EMH, IMHO.

Didn't much like Seven personally. Of the women, I found Torres much more
watchable. Better actress, better character, better looking. Just MPO.

I would concur. Tuvok being a close second after those two.

No way. Tuvok rules.

I just like the fact that Seven's character was interesting and
well-acted by Jeri Ryan. Of course, she was good to look at too.

Yup.
Only at the end those characters started to have less appeal. Specially
Holodoc.

Together with Harry Kim.
Kes solo was nice too imo.
And I repeat *SOLO*
With a needed Neelixcitis.
But at the end Voyager (that did have some very nice moments in the middle
seasons)... Well, it went totally downhill.

Then:
Tom Paris (had all the makings of a good character but the ball musta got
dropped)
Janeway (could have been a good character, reminded me of Kirk in the fist
few eps, again the ball musta got dropped)
TIE: Kim, Kes, Chakotay (most boring)
Neelix (most annoying) The only time I actually like him was after he
destroys Tuvok's quarters after the session with the Klingon woman Ch'Rega
in "Prophecy." If Neelix was done right he be allot like Phlox from ENT.

I agree with you. My agreeance is due to 2 things:
1. Seven of Nine is a good character
2. The other characters, as my Yiddish grandmother would say, SUCK BIG TIME.

Yeah, I always thought Tom Paris was like a young Kirk,
only where Kirk's reckless gambles paid off big, Paris's
big gamble turned round and kicked him where it hurt.
But they couldn't keep playing him like a young Kirk,
because a young Kirk would have outshone Janeway too
much. So they fixed his rebellious streak, but made him
bland and average as well.
> Janeway (could have been a good character, reminded me of Kirk in the fist

Ah, I never thought of Janeway as Kirk-like. And she was
too damn inconsistent in her attitude. When she told
Ransom she never really broke the rules, I spent a good
five minutes laughing my ass off.
> TIE: Kim, Kes, Chakotay (most boring)
Chakotay especially. In the Voyager series that ran in
my head he was *soooo* much cooler. My imaginary Chakotay
was a total self-serving bastard who spent his time playing
up to both the Maquis and Janeway, trying to make sure that
whoever won out on Voyager it wouldn't hurt him either way.
Agree with Kes and Kim though. Kes especially. They designed
the whole character around the concept of drastically
short lifespan, and then never did anything with it! I
especially hated the Elogium episode. Making the whole
thing some weird "false Elogium" totally ruined it. Why
not just say that she goes through Ocampa-menopause at
age three, and have her make the decision for real then
live with the consequences?

Ah, I always liked Neelix. After all the "violent species"
and "stuffy academic species" and "deeply religious people"
types, it was a great thing for me to see a species who
actually liked having FUN!

You mean "Neelix-ectomy".
I agree. The grown up hair style Kes, not the childlike crop.
My first choice would be Doc and then the Paris and Kim stuff,
except the Captain Proton drivel.

That's probably due to one thing: up until season three, Voyager's ratings
were, shall I say, not terribly inspiring. Berman and Co. needed to bring
something to save the franchise. Nothing beats a hottie in a skin tight
jumpsuit for Trekgeeks around the Quadrent to...er..spank their Aldarian
Monkeys to and boost testosterone levels, as well as ratings. Tried the same
with Enterprise ( I don't think Berman was thinking in terms of Blalock
being the next Meryl Streep, if you catch my drift).

There is no statistically significant difference in the ratings before 7 of
9 and after 7 of 9. There was IIRC a sudden peak of interest around the
time of Scorpion, but that didn't last. The Voyager newsgroup has
specifics.

Am I the only one that loved Blalock's Vulcan portrayal? I thought she was
right behind Spock and Tuvok as the best Vulcans ever.

Though it would appear to the casual readier I'm quoted in the quote
above -- I didn't say any of that. My only post in this particular
thread was about a different character.
That's all. No big deal, I merely wanted to clarify.
