I checked out her home page, she is quite attractive. I definately think
they should go with someone fairly unknown. Cherize Theron or Angelina are
way too visible and would overshadow Craig.

I think that's true, but I would also wager that stories of their being
considered for the role of Vesper are likely to turn out to have been
no more than unsubstantiated tabloid trash. I'm sure EON will have
taken the relative fame of the leading actress into question anyway.
They've only ever cast one Bond girl who was better-known than her
leading man (Diana Rigg), and according to some accounts that was
because they weren't 100% confident that Lazenby, as a newbie to the
acting game, could carry the movie on his own.

I wonder if there's anything to that? EON were following a previous
pattern (hiring the lead from THE AVENGERS) and the part of Tracy was
a significant one amongst Bond girls and required an actress one could
convincingly believe Bond would lose his heart to; TV's "Mrs. Peel"
would appear to be the perfect match for cinema's greatest superspy.

What do you do, Vargas?"
"Vargas doesn't want to think about Linda Thorson."

Connery / Rigg would have been a very appealing proposition, and yes,
after GF, casting another Avengers girl would have followed a pattern.
Some people involved in OHMSS have said that they were pleased that
they had Rigg's experience to counteract Lazenby's lack thereof, but I
grant that whether that was the reason she was hired is pretty
difficult to establish.
(Whyever she was hired, I think I'm still right in saying that it's the
only occasion EON have cast a Bond girl who was better-known than the
actor playing Bond - not that that was the point you were raising...)

Vargas might not, but whatever Thorson's limitations as an actress at
the time (she's got much better since), well, um, phwooar.

The News of the World newspaper reported actress Eva Green has been
cast as Vesper Lynd.

I like to pretend the whole end of the original Avenger's series never
happened, although Linda occasionally held her own. Honestly Honor was good
but Diana was better and Linda was a wanna-be.

Brian Clemens has often said that the inexperienced Linda was
not his choice.

Vargas would most likely be her dresser...

IIRC he left the series briefly and was then begged to return, and he
claims that in his absence strings were pulled because Thorson was
personally involved with another member of the production team, leaving
him lumbered with a leading lady he didn't want. Admittedly, the
scripts for that final season were a mixed bag at best, and I suspect
part of that is because nobody knew quite what to do with Thorson's
character. Tara King was originally written as much more of a bimbo
than Emma Peel or Cathy Gale, and I don't think any of the writers
managed to work up the chemistry which Steed's partnership with a
strong female lead had produced.
I don't know what Vargas thinks, but still I'd choose Macnee/Thorson
over Fiennes/Thurman or even Macnee/Lumley/Hunt any day.

I think if you dropped Hunt from the last combo, Macnee/Lumley
would have made a better pair than Macnee/Thorson.
