| I think the producers should sell CR as 'Alternative Bond' [message #219038] |

I think the only way to look at Casino Royale is not Bond Rebooted but
Bond Alternative. I think the producers made a bit of mistake not
stressing that in the press conference. I think Wilson should have
said,
"Casino Royale is introducing a new version of James Bond - still Bond
but different. He's not the same Bond as seen in the last twenty films
- he's version 2 for the 21st century. And with a new type of Bond we
feel it's best to show how he becomes a 00 agent. We feel Daniel Craig
is the ideal actor for the role."
Had Wilson said that I think it would have clarified the matter. As it
stands, CR will feature a more mature looking Bond on his first mission
and set in 2006! So it's a bit strange. I think the producers should
say it's Alternative Bond, not Bond Rebooted or Bond Begins.

Not Alternative, but the REAL Bond. How about that? Older fans will
dispute that Connery was the REAL Bond, but for younger folks today who
haven't seen the Sean films might accept Owen as the "real" one. heh. I
like "Bond Begins"... kinda like Batman Begins, which threw in some new
mythology after many films already existed, and I guess it worked (for
those who liked it... I was iffy about it). After all, CR the film, as
I've heard, will stick closer to Fleming's Bond than the other movies
(right?). I'm rereading CR right now, and keep picturing Connery in the
role, but try to imagine Owen in there. I think it'll work. Can't
wait.....

Yeah, a more serious Bond film will make a nice change of pace for the
series. They can always go back to the comic book stuff later.
But why would you want to imagine "Owen" in CR? Has something happened to
Daniel Craig that I don't know about?
cheers

Whoa, sorry.... that was a major slip..... I don't know why I wrote
Owen.... I guess after months and months of everyone betting on him in
the role?
Forgive me?
