One of the finest drama series ever made begins a repeat run on BBC4 this
evening. This 1996 9-part drama is where Daniel Craig (and the excellent
Mark Strong) first came to my attention. Craig plays one of the four main
characters (alongside Christopher Eccleston and Gina McKee) and his
performance is unforgettable.

If you've not seen this before, do yourself a favour and set the Sky
Plus....

What do you do, Vargas?"

"Vargas jousts with Tom Zielinski with the tedious inevitability
of an unloved MOONRAKER defence from Mike Feeney."

Damn. That title is not available at either NetFlix (easily the best way to
rent DVD) or Blockbuster.

That's because they don't wear a lot of padding.

The major thing that sticks out with Craig in this series is his
height. He looks pretty short in most of the scenes. Milk crates or
shoe lifts will be needed I think. How tall does he reckon he is, and
what's the real answer?

A lot taller than Mel Gibson.

Even if 'Lord Basildon' isn't yet another Scojo alias (which I suspect,
although I haven't checked thoroughly enough to be sure), he's
certainly sticking pretty close to the Scojo agenda. Anybody who can
watch one of the best dramas ever made by the BBC and notice nothing
more than Craig's perceived height - and Craig's actual height of five
eleven is easily checkable with even the most cursory internet search -
is merely looking for the reasons to bash the guy. Prepare to plonk
him.

Best

Wait a minute....you want to talk about if a guy playing Bond can ACT,
and not about his cheekbones??? What are you, some kind of troll???

ya know what, i so can't be bothered trying to get into conversations
into your clique club. I am no troll, and certainly no bleeding Scojo,
but everytime I enter conversation with the 'in crowd' you on my case.
So, it's been real folks, but I understand your outsiders policy. Some
of you are good guys, Tom seems very personable, but as for the rest of
you. What is your problem? I make a comment, legitimately about his
height, because it stood out to me, and you come crying like girls!
Sorry I spoke

Don't take umbrage, M'lud. I reckon he's about 5' 11'.'

It's strange, but I sometimes get a feel for a person's unique posting
"voice" on this newsgroup and I get the feeling you've posted here
for a number of years, not using your current moniker, of course.

Am I right or am I full of it?

The thing is, you lot don't get the appeal of Bond. Bond is meant to be
a handsome, charming man - with a license to kill. That is James Bond,
and you need an actor or someone with those traits. Being a great actor
is not important - that is why Roger Moore played Bond and not Laurence
Olivier. Daniel Craig doesn't look like James Bond, and, with due
respect to the chap, he can't act 'handsome'. You have to be born
handsome, no acting school can teach you to be handsome and no acting
school can teach you to be charming. Charm has to be come from your
natural personality as much as it does from acting.

Daniel Craig will never work as Bond because he's not a natural fit for
the character. It's that simple, folks, and watching Craig's
performance in 'Our Friends Up North' won't change that fact.

Well, it is a newsgroup dedicated to a spy, so I guess he should feel
free.

Apologies for any offence given. Scojo has been through phases where
if nobody is responding to his posts he will reply to himself using a
number of aliases. I saw a lot of Scojo-inspired threads to which
you'd responded, often agreeing with the points he was making, and I
jumped to the wrong conclusion. Sorry.

Best

Stick around. Don't vanish because of a negative
reaction to your post. And Phil said sorry!

I never reply to Scojo. Poor chap is convinced he's more handsome than
Craig. Classic delusional state.

And from me. If I've misinterpreted, it's on me then.
