Hello all.
I have first editions of Hitchhiker's, Restaurant, Life Universe Everything,
and So Long and Thanks for All the Fish, all but the first signed by Adams.
I see from Abebooks that these might be worth a few hundred each, but I am
not sure how to go about selling them. I would like to just find a "used
and rare" bookstore here in Southern California specializing in sci-fi and
sell it to them (taking the inevitable hit in price), but I don't know who.
I also have Meaning of Liff and the radio transcripts signed by Adams, a
leather-bound omnibus edition signed, and a collection of the radio
broadcasts on cassette signed. I even have Gaiman's "Don't Panic" signed by
Adams. What should I do?

Leave the house on Friday night, with the door unlocked and email me your
full home address.
And I assure you the entire problem will go away...
Seriously though, if what you say is true and you want to sell, I'm pretty
sure you could fetch a good price on Ebay for them. Not sure if there be a
specialist bookstore for sci-fi but any decent 2nd hand bookstore worth it's
salt would shell out a few readies for that lot....

hmm, most "used and rare" will only give 25% of what they can sell it for,
but I guess that is negotiable. I suppose I could do ebay, but I have never
sold anything there. If I did, I wonder whether I should sell them
independently or as a group?

Try Ebay. There seems to be a lot of Adams stuff there when I've looked.

Oh no. Now he will be unavailable for the next seven and a half
million years, by which time the books will probably be sold already.
Perhaps we could reboot Kåre so he could resume the afda index?

YAY! Tea!
/me forgets to calculate the asnswer to "why not just keep them", and
the whole human race is wiped out in a philosophical war over why one
would sell signed first editions

Well, yes, that is a good question. I have, indeed, kept them for 15 years
or so, and I have enjoyed having them. But, we are trying to reduce the
size of our "stuff", and I sold about 8 or 9 boxes of books already, holding
on these ones back. I am simply not in "collector's mode" anymore. Still,
it is a 50/50 thing right now and I would only sell them if I could get top
dollar.

But... Now out telephones will be all dirty because all the telephone
sanitizers died!
That could wipe out the entire human... Oh... I think I missed
