Hard to say. Ole' Bill seems to be getting into philanthropy pretty
hard - he's leaving more money to charity than to his children, for
example. Gates' thinking seems to be aligned with Rockafeller's (sp?):
I can't take it with me, so I may as well do some good.
I haven't noticed this in Microsoft company policy before, though. It
would be an interesting trend.

That's simply pure greed. Anybody who "fights the good fight" for
freedom of speech wins in the PR battle. Further, by resisting setting
up something different for each set of government restrictions, they
save money. Further still, they have effectively *given* the
restrictive governments a structured method by which they can be shut
down, winning them the PR battle with the governments as well. You
see, they create the public desire to go to their sites just to test
them and see if they can deliver - increasing visibility (thus
influence and marketability). Then they effectively cheapen and
simplify the access blocking process by giving restrictive governments
the means to have *all* such content from whole locations blocked with
a single request; this allows them to satisfy government restrictions
with a single action (blocking location access to specific features)
rather than multiple repeated actions (removing individual instances
one at a time).

I don't think anybody's completely evil. Even Darth Vader had a heart
hidden behind that black chestplate of his.
Or it very well could be self interest. They don't want some government
standing between them and the valuable Chinese customers.
I think it's probably a combination of both - Microsoft isn't just one
person, it's a whole bunch of people. I even considered buying a bit of
it myself once.

Try asking Luke. Palpatine would have killed him in Episode 6 had it not
been for Vader.

Ever notice that Luke had more power than all the Master Jedi out there?
None of them could turn Anakin back from the dark side, but Luke managed
it, and he wasn't 100% trained as a Master, he was still technically a
Knight at the time.

It wasn't really Luke who did it, it was the Emperor trying to kill
Vader's only son.
I'm wondering: How did Palpatine come up with the name Vader? Did he
know that Vader would be the father of such an important person?

Actually, still technically a padawan learner - he hadn't passed his
final test of defeating Vader.

I know several schools in this area have benefited from his
computer in schools thingie but that could be argued
self-interest; once they're Dependant, they have to buy from them
after all.

In reality it's the root of our word "father", and since they speak
modern English so well I'd guess it probably has a similar meaning for them.
