Claims to bring together TOS and NextGen characters. Sounds too good to be
true.

What the heck! :)

But I still don't know why sexy ~young~ *new* actors can't be tapped to
play the TOS roles.

Oh gawd, as if we need more story idea retreads.

This sort of thing was already done, and not particularly well.

I honestly don't know if another Trek movie would be worth the
trouble. The 3 series that didn't even get a movie (DS9, Voyager, and
Enterprise) either wrapped things up in such a way as to render movie
ideas difficult to use, or just plain didn't deserve a movie. While
the end of Enterprise left enough time to fit a movie in, is anyone
actually going to go see it? (Yea, I know, they're talking about
Shatner and Stewart, but I just can't see that working...an Ent movie
might be workable, but I ain't holding my breath.. )

Gawd, I remember when seeing the announcement of a new Trek movie made
me go "Cool! I wanna see that.. " Now, it's like "Hmmm, maybe I'll
rent it...if I have nothing better to do.. "

The reason congressmen try so hard to get re-elected is that they
would hate to have to make a living under the laws they've passed.

Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax

If I had a dollar for every rumor that said that movie was being made with
the TOS characters. Or that there's going to be a movie about Starfleet
Academy. Or a movie set after the TNG era. Or on a Klingon bird of prey.

Tom Hanks really wanted to play Zephram Cochrane, but couldn't due to
scheduling conflict. Let Hanks have a crack at Trek. Couldn't hurt!

I wouldn't hold my breath on any of this, guys.

No substantiation, no link, no source, nothing. And, to be honest, why
would calling it a "supermovie" bring out any more people than the last
one?

Wish Trek *were* coming back, but I just don't believe it. Problem is
that its day has passed.

Rubbish. The "day [that] has passed" involves the current status quo - the
current characters, played by the current actors (TOS being either old or
unfortunately deceased, TNG getting too old, VOY / DS9 / ENT of no audience
interest) controlled by the current production system.

Quality Star Trek stories "passed"? Never. But there's the clause -
/quality/ - attached to a combination of production and acting that can
actually pull the story off.

And that's what is missing today.

The time frame would be very interesting alright. The older guys can't
play themselves as young men anymore. Picard would be an admiral, and he'd
somehow have to check in with Shatner in the past, but before he died.
Spock wears really heavy makeup, but still looks older than his dad ever
did! I'm sure with sci-fi there would be someway to do it.

personally i think a star trek klingon movie would be kinda cool, but
considering it would only attract hardcore trek fans and maybe a small
subset of the goth subculture i dont really see it happening ( not that you
were trying to suggest it would mind you).

a thought occurs in the klingon agent in broken bow had landed in australia
he wouldnt of been shot, he'd have been pissed as a newt though.

Any Klingon Trek movie would also have human characters, as well
as Vulcans and other species. I had a thought -- a movie in which
the Federation captain is Klingon. Maybe Worf.

How about less Foreheads du jur and more *real* aliens? What about all the
fantastic aliens we saw in TAS plus some of the aliens seen in the
Federation Council in ST:TVH?

Like I've said before a Klingon movie (at least a PG 13) set either just
after the Kitomer Accord where Captain Sulu could make a cameo, or (my
favourite) right after DS9 following Martok (and Worf) back to Qonos.

I think maybe we've got enough aliens. Sure, they can bring in the
odd new species, but they should work with some of the species
they've come up with. I never liked seeing a new alien species
every week on Voyager.

Beats the hell out of the TNG's tendancy to have them stumble on a random
planet inhabited by humans! I always wondered if they were hinting at
intelligent design there, for it would seem otherwise impossible for the
same creature to arise and evolve at the same time on a remote planet with
different conditions than earth. Actually, how likely would it be for every
creature to have evolved with cephalization, bipodism, etc? Every startrek
alien (with a couple exceptions) are simian in body structure. Coincidence?
I always thought starwars was more realistic in this regard, with creatures
like Jabba and Twato.

And the TOS ep "The Paradise Syndrome" where Spock mentions the theory of
humans being seeded on many planets by a advanced race.

Here's an interesting idea: a movie based on that Klingon version of Hamlet
that came out a while back. An interesting idea, which is why it's certain
that Berman will NEVER think about it.

Star Wars had a bigger budget- and TOS did have the Horta, Gorn, Excalbians,
the Kelvans (disguised in human form but off-screen immense and tentacled),
the Salt Vampire...
