2/5 - TRIPLE FEATURE
--------------------
7:00 - Treehouse of Horror XVI (GABF17)
When Bart lapses into a coma, Homer and Marge replace him with a robot
boy, only for Bart to regain consciousness; Homer competes in "The
World Series of Manhunter" as one of Mr. Burns's targets; thanks to a
witch's spell, everybody in Springfield becomes whatever their
Halloween costume is
7:30 - Simpsons Christmas Stories (HABF01)
When Reverend Lovejoy is detained from his Christmas sermon by a train
wreck (okay, a model train wreck) and Ned gets a paper cut, it's "The
Gospel According to Homer"; during World War II, Grampa and Mr. Burns
end up stranded on an island on Christmas Eve, where they manage to
shoot down Santa; Christmas Eve in Springfield, with music from "The
Nutcracker"
8:00 - The Italian Bob (HABF02)
"The Simpsons are going to...Italy!" when Homer is asked by Mr. Burns
to pick up his new car, but they end up in a small town with a
familiar mayor - Sideshow Bob, who has managed to keep his past from
the townspeople, but when Lisa has a little too much wine and lets the
secret out, the Simpsons discover that "vendetta" is Italian for...
"vendetta"
(You didn't think Fox was going to air a new episode against the Super
Bowl, did you?)
2/12 - Milhouse of Sand and Fog (GABF19 - THIRD AIRING)
When Maggie gets the chicken pox, Homer organizes a party for all of
the parents to bring over their uninfected kids, where Milhouse's
parents get back together, but when Milhouse realizes they want to
spend time with each other and not him, he and Bart organize a plan to
split them up - which results in Homer and Marge splitting up
2/19 - Marge's Son Poisoning (GABF20 - THIRD AIRING)
Bart feels sorry for Marge when Homer won't ride her tandem bicycle
with her, so he decides to join her, and when the teahouse they go to
is closed, Bart turns his treehouse into one - which makes his friends
think he's a mama's boy; after Homer develops a strong arm thanks to a
dumbbell he bought from a strongman, Moe gets him involved in
competitive arm wrestling
(Yes, it's another all-reruns night on Fox, and as the next two
Sundays are the Olympics closing ceremonies and the Acaedmy Awards,
don't expect any new episodes any time soon)
STUFF for "We're On the Road to D'ohwhere" (HABF04)
---------------------------------------------------
Written by Kevin Curran
Directed by Nancy Kruse
Chalkboard: TEACHER WAS NOT DUMPED -- IT WAS MUTUAL
Couch: The "Bonanza" opening, complete with theme music
Special Guest Voice: Marcia Wallace
Also Starring: Pamela Hayden, Tress MacNeille, Russi Taylor,
Karl Wiedergott
Overseas Animation: Rough Draft
REVIEW: B - this had "another episode for the lame pile" written all
over it, until the yard sale subplot opened up, and it was
saved by not going with an "everything is back to normal"
ending.
REFERENCES
"Bonanza" (couch opening)
"Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" (Ned's album)
Outward Bound ("Upward Bound")
"Life in Hell" (Binky was on the "Birthplace of Matt Groening" sign)
1F08 (same closing theme music)
AABF03 (State Comptroller Atkins)
AABF06 (Homer in Las Vegas)
DYN
....Principal Skinner now has a secretary's office?
....the school orders Grade D Frozen Pizza?
....Bart was flying from Minneapolis to Atlanta alone?
....Springfield is the "Land of Milhouse"? (Maybe he's famous for
almost being Fallout Boy)
....Homer calls Matt Groening "Matt Groaning"?
....the road from Springfield to Oregon goes past Mount Rushmore?
....Homer is 38 now? (Wasn't he 39?)
....the "Birthplace of Matt Groening" was a log cabin, and the sign
had two Binkys (from "Life in Hell") on it?
....the closing theme music was from 1F08?
....Maggie was alone from the time Marge was taken away until Lisa came
home from school - and the front door was unlocked?
GOOFS / FREEZE FRAME / WHATNOT
Bart is in seat 33C - but planes letter seats from left to right as
you face the plane, and Bart is in a right-side aisle seat with three
seats in a row on each side, so it should be 33D.
What lengthy road leads to a dead end overlooking a cliff? Also,
the dotted yellow line seems to appear only in Homer's rear view
mirror, as if the car was painting it.
Not really a Simpsons goof, but "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor
Dreamcoat" is based on a mistranslation of the Bible; the source from
which it was taken actually says Joseph was given a "long coat with
sleeves".
The lyrics Ned sings are actual lyrics from the show, from the end of
the song "Joseph's Coat" (lyrics in parentheses are the parts that Ned
doesn't sing):
It was red and yellow and green and brown and scarlet and black
and ochre and peach and ruby and olive and violet (and fawn) and lilac
and gold and chocolate and mauve and cream and crimson and silver
and rose and azure and lemon and russet and grey and purple and white
and pink and orange and red and yellow and green and brown and scarlet
and black and ochre and peach (repeat the rest, and end with "and
blue")
-- Don
The next five Sundays are the Super Bowl, three weeks of Olympics, and
the Academy Awards - looks like a vacation until March 12

I'd have to look at the tape again, but I thought it there was a sharp curve
or something. If it was a dead end, it could just have been a spur off a
"lengthy road."

The Jewish Publication Society translates it as "an ornamented tunic." A
footnote reads, "Or 'a coat of manycolors'; meaning of Hebrew uncertain."
>The lyrics Ned sings are actual lyrics from the show
Really? Wow. It sounded like a musical rake gag to me.

So, five weeks of unentertaining bullshit. Great.
The AA might be worth it for Jon Stewart, but not if I have to wade
through those damn awards and acceptance speeches.
