Damn.
http://www.trekfansunited.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=3732 &hl=
Tim can not get into the chat room. Seems someone has been up to some
dirty tricks there. So here is the announcement. Tim can also not log
onto the forum for some reason.
Paramount has agreed to do a release on our combined efforts proving
that we were involved with these talks, negotiations or whatever you
choose to call them. This is supposed to come from Mr. Wentworth’s
office. We will see if they stay true to this. I have NO doubts that
many of you will contact him. Please feel free to do so.
First, let me start off by saying that the way that most fans have
united here is astounding. Most have all pulled together to try and
keep Enterprise and Star Trek alive. I would also like to add that I
am not sure why some on other forums were so mistrusting of what we as
fans we were trying to do. It really saddens me that we could not all
pull together in this to try and make a positive impact on the future
of Enterprise and Star Trek.
Although non of our members that have contributed to the campaign have
complained, most everyone else has. It boggles the mind that people do
not have at least some trust in the fellow fans. It does not matter
what series you are a fan of. They all push for unity as well as peace
and that is not what all of the fans here on the internet have made
this about. It has turned into a total concept of who is going to win
and who is going to loose.
That has been wrong from the start and should not have come down that
way by either side. If you were not happy with the way we were doing
things. OFFER suggestions not criticism. Not one of the people putting
down our efforts even tried to offer advice or contacted me personally
to say “try this” or you might want to run this by your staff.
Here are the facts. We have been in talks with Paramount. We have
brought millions and millions to the table to keep the show going. We
have had two companies in Canada that were involved in trying to move
it to Canada. We also proposed another way of keeping it in the U.S so
that no one would have to move. This was all thought out very well in
advanced and pushed forward not by just the staff at Trek United but
by the other Canadian Companies as well.
We had many people involved in this outside of Trek United. We are NOT
producers, directors or know anything about the television business.
This is why we got in touch with people who were. We made a proposal
to these companies in Canada and they wanted to take it to the next
level which was Paramount.
The main problem here seems to be us accepting fan money. This will no
longer be an issue. Starting Monday or Tuesday. Andrew our attorney
and I will start the forms and refunding all money that our members
have contributed to this campaign as per the TOS.
With this being said. The money from the fans was meant to make a
point and that is what happened. People stood up and took notice. The
media ate it up. Paramount has noticed us to say the least. We have
taken this campaign to new heights beyond any other. We let them know
that we would not go quietly into the night without speaking our mind.
A lot of our staff and members have taken a lot of abuse from others
on forums and various places for standing up for what they believe in
and something that they hold dear which is this wonderful world of
Star Trek. Most of our members stand for what Star Trek is all about.
Unity, peace and working together for a common cause and we did this
against incredible odds which to be honest I thought was Paramount. I
never dreamed that we would be fighting fans in this battle as well.
This is NOT what Star Trek is all about.
For the people that have supported us from the start and for the ones
that continue to do so. Please hang tight. You have done everything
that you could to try and make this happen. It is plain to see that
this is not about money, ratings and or anything else other than
politics with UPN and Paramount or somewhere else.
Our final proposal was knocked down by Paramount. We will not see a
season five for Star Trek Enterprise. All money as I stated earlier
will be refunded starting Monday or Tuesday of this week. We will not
allow people bashing our efforts on our own forums. Please keep in
mind that our members are fans just like you are. If you feel the need
to rejoice over this.. Please direct your email to me.
Tim [at] trekunited.com
For the members that have supported us Thank you. We are all winners.
We had the dream that we could make this happen. Trek United will
continue to be here and we will explore new ideas, but the fan
donation part if it has made the point we intended it to .

Oh good God
Yeah gloating really helps here
Thanks for the information, Mutts. I'm sorry it didn't work. I still don't
understand
people's desire to see the show die. I have a feeling they think another
trek will soon be
in the offing but again, I'm betting we don't see trek for at least another
decade or two.
I'm glad they tried to keep it going.

I haven't been following this story, but from reading this post it would
seem that you have been under vigorous and unrelenting attack. No doubt
entirely undeserved.

Mutts,
Trek United as left a lot of bad blood all across internet Trek fandom.
Tim has a lot of bridges to rebuild and I wish him well. Some people who
may or may not have been a Part of TU have accuse those that had doubts
about the success of getting a fifth season of not being true trek. I
kept a neutual position until last monday when I learned about the March
16th letter. I then started back checking to see what else was out there.
Some of the things I've learned since about Tim's past I haven't reported
because it either not relevent to the opinon piece I did for my blog or I
couldn't comfirm with more that one source.
I consider myself to be at least a responsible person. So many things that
have been reported else where this past week I haven't ran with for the
second reason given above. Many bloggers and and netizine editors are
just as responsible it is the few that aren't that give the rest of us a
bad name.
Now the internet Trek communitity needs to heal and come together. We are
a special group of people in that we share the since of wonder of what Man
could achive is he gave his self a chance.

Had to try. had to do my best.
I think it made a difference. Not the way we wanted. But it made a
difference in some small way. I think that even anti-enterprise
people must recongize we
showed Paramount that the fans want more Trek. thats a good thing no
matter what.
who knows, If the DVD sales are good, and the fans keep watching
the reruns, maybe a mini-series or dvd release. They might throw us a
bone, we are the customer afterall.
I dont regret my invovlement. I believe in Treks message of optimism.
That is the only reason I put time and energy into it. That message is
too important these days. I dont mourn for Enterprsise or TrekUnited.
I mourn for network tv and all the crap they pump out ad infintum into
kids heads.
I knew the odds were not good and said as such here before. So its not
a surprise, but it is a bummer.
I dont even hate anyone or wish anything bad on bashers or people that
gave me a hard time. There is nothing useful from that anyways.
What goes around comes around.
I want the Trek franchise strong and healthy someday. It was once.
It will be again I feel. I know that even anti-Enterprise fans want
that too. We have more in common than we do not.
Trek will be back.
How and when, nobody can say.
I am always optmistic. Nobody can take that away.
The dust will settle from all this. Something good will come from it.
Already has. TrekUnited is a lot of really super people. I will stay
there and continue to see what happens.
I hope that those that were against what we were doing will
see some good in it,. And try to build on that.
Im sure it wont be that long before we see another starship again
boldy going where no one has gone before.

I never wanted Enterprise to get cancelled before it's 7-year run was up.
Last year, i was happy when the fight was won to renew it for a 4th year.
But the show didn't get much better as entertainment and the ratings got
even worse. IMO, the fans have effectively rejected the show. Given that,
better to (in i believe night spirit's phrase) "prune it out" from the trek
stable before it causes even more damage to the franchise.
I think that we'd actually be less likely to get *more* trek (series,
movies) in the future if Enterprise continued to limp along then we will get
if it is put to rest now.
Of course i know i could be wrong about that and may come to rue these days
when i advocated not fighting for it, but that's my honest opinion right
now.

Yes, i never bought the "the end of Enterprise = the end of Star Trek"
notion. Enterprise was a part of Trek, not the whole ball game. And like it
or not, the fans thought it was a rotting branch of that franchise. Better
to prune off a rotting branch and thereby revive the whole organism...

No, not 'the fans', just _some_fans_.
There is no disputing the product could have been better.
What is ugly is the human to human interaction between those who say
"let it die" and those who say "make it better".

Keating says the show was cancelled over "politics", which he defined as
"the people on high telling the producers to do inane things to make it more
interesting".
Well, obviously, that means the guys on high weren't happy with the ratings.

By "the", i mean the majority. As in tpol saying the show lost 11 of its 13
million initial viewers.

Hey, i don't think i've been uncivil with Mutts or any of the pro-Ent types.
Just "kweeg", since he's a tinfoil hat salesman spamming the ng with his

If their idea of making it more interesting was "add a tamborine
to the theme music" and "add a boy band to one of the mess hall
scenes, entertaining the crew", then I'm glad it wasn't quite as
interesting as that after all.

Yes i agree - the ideas keating mentioned were absurd, but the point was
about the motive for cancelling the show. It was obviously ratings.

I'm a pessimist. Pessimists are more likely to be right than
optimists. Enterprise was the last chance to bring to something fresh
to Star Trek and they blew it because of a total lack of fresh ideas.
They're done, at least for the next 20 years.

They're still making the next movie for a start. The books and games
will go on being made, and at some stage Paramount will probably try
another series ... and if Beavis & Butthead are LONG gone it may even
be worth watching.
