DIDN'T YOU guys just know this was gonna happen .
YEA yea thats the tickect well have free democratic elections.
Be Palastien's were real famaliar with voting IT DID NOT come as a
surprise when the 1st try was null and voided because it had to be
explained to them that you Can't vote for dead people
Adolph Hitler won round one and they had to vote again LOL
On the second try the Hamas party won power and while Hamas wasn't
Hitler it sure was a real good second alternative.
This comes right on the heals of a win by a hard liner (in a fair
vote) in Iran.....could Bin Laden be the next winner in a vote soon to
come ?
WERE WE REALLY THAT DUMB ? IT CAN'T HAPPEN HERE !

I don't think there's much in common between the Iraqi and Palestinian
elections.
Judging from the current affairs coverage on the BBC, The Palestinian
result has a lot to do with rampant corruption within Arafat's old
party, Al Fatah. The voters were getting mightily pissed off with the
almost total lack of money being spent on infrastructure by the
Palestine Authority and at the same time watching the big cheeses in Al
Fatah building themselves palaces (that was the word used by a
Palestinian on one report) and driving round in big limos.
The Palestinian voters aren't stupid: they knew that said big cheeses
were dirt poor when they were in the Lebanon and then in Libya with
Arafat. You don't have to be a genius to connect sewage running down
your street with the shiny new palaces and work out where the aid money
from Europe and the US ended up.
Now, Hamas is also more than slightly patriarchal so it may end up being
equally corrupt. We'll just have to wait and see. However, I gather that
it *has* been helping people in the poor neighbourhoods and, most
importantly to the voters, it isn't Al Fatah.
I haven't heard nearly so much about the issues driving the Iraqi
election, but it seems obvious that there's not nearly so much
corruption happening there. Saddam's old bunch of greedy bastards are
dead, in prison or out of the country. Those standing for election
haven't had long enough to become the new rich greedy bastards. Lastly,
if the Occupying Powers have been doing a good job there shouldn't be
any corruption in Iraq, should there?

Don't be so sure:
"On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land
will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House
will be adorned by a downright moron."

don't be an idiot....this country Could not have hoped for 2 worse
victories........to think that the 2 most recent winners aren't has
hard line as they come.....and to think they will change their
idiology anytime soon would qualifiy a person as a certified moron.
The bottom line is THIS country push for free democratic elections
they got them and they backfired.
We have now empowered the worst possiable outcome via a process we
sanctioned and viewed as legitimate.
Now we don't want to reconginze Hamas as legit.
if you think Hamas or that yo yo in Iran is gonna play ball with us
you're off your rocker.

OK, I misread you there.
However my main point is still true: although the Iranians, for some
reason, like hardliners it seems that Hamas got elected because Al Fatah
condones massive corruption and Hamas was, quite simply, the only other
game in town.
There is nothing in common between the two elections.

Who said they would? Not me, babe.

Thats democracy. Nations elect the government *they* want: they don't
choose 'em to please Americans.
I haven't been following Iran's politics so have no idea if this was an
expected result or not, but having been there I can tell you that a very
good way to get a hostile reaction from Iran is to try arm twisting:
while Russia and Europe were trying diplomacy over the nuclear issue
Bush didn't help one little bit by barging in and throwing his weight about.

Hmmm, read "Pity The Nation" by Robert Fisk and then tell me why
Palestinians should have any love or respect for Israel or the USA.
