Just watching episode of Futurama and spotted what I believe may be a
general nod in direction of HitchHikers
Leela mentions when she was younger partaking in a martial art known as
"Arcturan Kung Fu".
Wonder if it's practised by Arcturan Mega Donkeys or if you get better at it
by eating some grated Arcturan mega donkey?

Another reference in Futurama to the works of DNA, is in the episode where
they all take a trip on the maiden voyage of the Starship Titanic....

Well, iut might be a nod, but it doesn't have to.
Like most names of stars/planets in Hitchhiker's Guide "Arcturan" is
derived from a real star, Arcturus:
<URL:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arcturus>
Thus it might be that the Futurama creators have picked the name from
Hitchhiker's (I seem to recall more HHG references in Futurama) but they
also might simply have looked at some star charts...

Incidentally, rhinos weren't invented by Douglas Adams for Last Chance

*Threatening manner*
Are you calling me a pedant?
*Easing up*
Ah. Thank you, I think.
(Have you noticed how people tend to redefine words that are meant as
insults to mean something positive. Geek, nerd, and pedant are good
examples. For instance the definition of pedant according to
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Pedant is: "A person who is overly
concerned with formal rules and trivial points of learning," which is
clearly negative, and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pedant even says:
"Being called a pedant, or pedantic, is considered insulting." Yet, I
say thank you, anhd simply redefine it as "someone who is precise," thus
avoiding feeling insulted)

I hate to be a smartass, (actually I don't really mind) but I guess that'd
depend on the software.
Then again, it could just be a 'clever' sig.
Hello, am I talking to myself again?
Did I just type that out aloud?

Please, don't.
To the best of my knowledge, Matt Gröeing is behind not only Futurama, but
also the Simpsons, which in later seasons got fairly intertextual. (Nifty
word, agreed...)
I see no reason why Futurama shouldn't have referred to HHGG. In fact I see
more reasons than not, since the boundaries seems to be 'all you can think
of'. On many examples of supposed intertextualism (I belive it's a word) it
might seem too subtle, and you're left guessing. All you really need for it
to work, I guess, is to make the connection.
I'm not sure weather unintended intertextualism is commonly recognized
outside the textual confinements of printed reviews though.

Actually, that one I typed into the email. I hadn't found the box
on this version of Thunderbird where I set the filename to put the
sig in. For contrast, this one has a sig that was properly done

I'm doing the OE Quotefix thing, which is fairly simple.
At least I think it is, as it's all I've ever tried. Am I missing out on
anything, or is it the not-microsoft-issue? (I respect that.)

I think of it as the general "new box" issue.
Never had a new computer that didn't come with at least a little bit
of a learning curve. I'm on my sixth home computer, as I count them.
1) Atari 800
2) Atari 520ST
3) Macintosh SE
4) Macintosh Performa 6500.
5) iMac G5 20 inch.
6) Generic PC in E Net case with emachines keyboard and Envision disply
running KDE desktop on Debian Linux. I'm using GIMP and Thunderbird
mostly.
I've had to figure out some UI detalis for every one of them...
Not counted above are the Sente SAC I Arcade Computer I had in the
living room for years, because I didn't do any programming on it at
home. Also not counted are the two antique computers people gave me
as closet decorations that I've never gotten around to plugging in.

Whoa. I might consider myself as being on my first still (not counting
my parents's old XT (8088 4MHz) machine as it wasn't mine)...
I upgraded it several times exchanging all parts over time. Except the
floppy drive which I actually still have after 11 years.
Incidentally it doesn't work. I think the cable might just be loose
but I don't care enough to open the case :-)

I think 11 years ago I was still using the computer before the Performa.
I still need my floppy drive. My camera stores information on floppys,
(really stiffies, the 3.5 inch double density type). The iMac didn't
come with one so I had to get one that plugs into the USB cable.
One reason I do that is because I know so many people that have drawers
full of floppys that they are no longer using I get my media for free.
I've seen people tell each other "the only way to recycle floppies is
to give them to Tian." If my floppy drive stopped working I would need
to solve the problem before I could update my website again.
