Happy new year! I'll be brief... tonight's episode, while certainly
interesting in the "new plots" department, didn't dazzle me emotionally.
(And I still got a little teary when rewatching "Mother Simpson" on the
new season 7 DVDs.) It was still pretty good otherwise, and seemed to be
over before I expected (and not because I only needed to spend 24
minutes to watch it non-live). So, that's about all, except the junk I
typed below.
Also: It's 12:45 am, and apparently only Joe Klemm and Don Del Grande
have said anything about the episode on a.t.s? You guys didn't forget
about the only new episode in a 6-week gap, did you?
DYN:
....the opening looked full but wasn't exactly? (I can't check at the
moment, but the trim looks very close to EABF05's - sax solo straight to
Marge driving)
....Grampa's mouth doesn't match his line about invasion of privacy (this
has become less frequent of late)?
....the fan speed scene seemed oddly Family Guy-inspired (replace Lisa
with Stewie)?
....and that fan is really zipping along for "medium"?
....yet another non-canonical wedding moment?
....Jasper Beardley? (Who's left anyway, Willie and Chalmers? Charlie and
Zutroy and Tibor at the power plant? I could take a guess at Tibor's
last name...)
Previous episode references
9F15, CABF04: Age progression in couch gag not dissimilar to moments in
these episodes
8F23: Smokin' Joe Frazier reappears (as himself)
CABF12: Homer's face made to resemble Abe's
7F16, 8F23, 3F06, EABF18: Various episodes involving extra relations for
Homer
7F16, DABF04: The family goes on a boat with a new or potential relation
7F16, EABF22: Abe had his indiscretions too (both of which bore
children)
9F11: Ham radios make for dynamite comedy
2F03: Grampa gives Homer advice on his wedding day (I'd have loved to
see him start to give the time traveling advice here...)
Other references:
Amelie (Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain): recovered mailbag from
atop a mountain (did this happen in real life too?)
Other notes
Mr. Largo never heard back from Juilliard, yet one wonders why he didn't
try to contact them again. About a year ago, when I was applying to
graduate schools (5 total), I heard absolutely nothing from two of them
until I called up and asked. As it turned out, I hadn't gotten into
either, but is it really some sort of standard procedure to leave people
hanging? (Saving money? It's not like I didn't send in a bloody $50
application fee...)
Skinner's ham radio number is WA3QIZ (haha, zed), if I heard correctly;
is there any joke there that I'm not getting?

Question:
From where is that scene with Homer's capsule lodged taken, that shot where
Mason is approaching out of the dark..
I thought of 2001 or Abyss but i can't put the finger on it, i just know
i've seen it somewhere
