Empire was the name of my high school's literary magazine,
I wasn't aware that it had covered Tolkien's books?
He wasn't a very interviewable sort and worked alone...so
who else would have been interviewed?

That he worked alone isn't strictly true! CS Lewis, Chrisopher Tolkien
(especially) and various others gave feedback on LOTR via letters and
readings, perhaps they were thoroughly covered with pictures and interviews
in your school magazine after you left?
