Tv series [message #195590] Mo, 09 Januar 2006 16:02

What books would you like to see covered in the tv series.
Mine would have to be the timothy zahn books, which are recognised to
be some of the best books in the genre. It would be nice if they could
have a sub plot about vader trying to use his power to create life, and
become obessed with this goal. We (the audience) would never know
whether he achieved his aim but there would be enough supporting
evidence to make it plausible. This would obviously involve flash backs
and there would have to be a strong story line to deflect from this
being the central theme of any episodes.
There are plenty of non force (lightsaber wielding) creatures for the
jedi to get to grips with and the rebuilding of the republic.
Does anyone have any ideas on what should be in the tv series. There
will be budget restraints, so please allow for this in your reply.

Since the TV series will take place between Episodes III and IV, it's
unlikely that it will be anything from the EU that takes place well
after that time period.

Personally, I'd love to see the New Jedi Order as a TV show but that's
not likely either.

Is it well documented that it will take place between episode 3 and 4?
Will they use Ewan Mcgregor as obi wan. There is no doubt that there is
enough story for maybe a series, but what then? Was New jedi order as
well written as timothy zahn's novels?

The TV show is based around a minor character, so Ewan McGregor /
Obi-Wan won't be needed (except perhaps rarely as a guest star).

There are a few books / comics based between the trilogies, but the TV
show is based around a minor character, so that makes it even less
likely that any of those existing stories will be used.

It has been said that if these first two TV shows (one animated and one
live-action) are successful then there will be other TV shows, as well
as possible movies (TV or cinema).

20 years of the fledgling rebel alliance getting their butts kicked every
episode (remember, they can't win any major victories save one if you're to
preserve continuity with the Ep4 opening crawl.)?

That's just one reason why the TV show is very likely not about the
Rebels. A series following the adventures of young Boba Fett is most
likely, but other characters like Aurra Sing are also possibilities.

There are lots of minor characters, but I doubt it would be centered
around Boba Fett. I believe it *is* likely that the show will be
centered around the fledgling Rebellion, with characters like Mon
Mothma and Bail Organa taking the lead.

The reason I don't think it would be Boba Fett is that he's not
complex enough as a character to carry a show. If he were an
anti-hero type, one who is flawed but sometimes is forced into
situations where he has to help others, then I could see a show built
around someone like him. But he only has that kind of depth in the EU
novels. In the movies he's just another flat character.

In the movies, he's just a tiny extra that got blown out of proportion by
the fans. The benefit of this is that we don't know that he isn't a complex
character from the tiny bits we've seen in the movie. He could very well
turn out to be the "anti-hero" you want without contradicting the movies at
all. After all, that's what the EU did.

That doesn't mean I have any faith in Lucas's ability to craft such a
character. He had an opportunity to craft a dramatic, complex character with
Anakin and instead, we got HC. If he can get a decent writer and give him
the freedom to do his job, however...

That's the point. The live-action TV series is being used to expand on
a character that wasn't emphasised in the movies.

I'm not saying it definitely will be a Boba Fett show, but it does make
a lot of sense and is the most obvious target (which perhaps makes him
unlikely in some ways). It would basically be "Young Indianana Jones in
Space". :-)

Yes I think the New Jedi order would be good. Maybe as one of those CGI
animation series that are springing up everywhere now (like the new
captain scarlet series).

They are already working on a new animated Star Wars TV show that uses
animated computer graphics (probably similar to Starship Troopers:
Roughnecks), but this one is based during the Clone Wars time period.
