Salute Your Shorts

Remember Snick?

Are You Afraid Of The Dark?
Pete And Pete.

Now what is one Nickelodeon?

Nothing, just crap.

Alot of people used to like Ren And Stimpy, but I always thought the
show sucked.

Maybe you got older.... or Nick's budget got smaller. I agree, I always
liked Beavis and Butthead way more than R&S and found R&S very
overrated.

I thought Ren and Stimpy was a lot funnier way back when it was
originally on but now it seems almost tame. Now every cartoon on today
seems to imitate it's over-the-top style.

The only way to deal with trolls is to limit your reaction to
reminding others not to respond to trolls.

By posting such a message, you let the troll know that you know what
he is, and that you are not going to get dragged into his twisted
little hobby.

The Internet is a splendidly haphazard collection of both serious and
silly material. Because it is so free, there are bound to be problems.
I think that we can best enjoy it if we deal with everything that
happens online with a wry grin and a ready shrug

The news had come out in the First World War: The bloody Red Baron was
flying wonce more. The Allied Command ignored all of its men, and
called on "Mike" to do it again!

Pay no attention to the bilgefag. perkoff the jerkoff is just upset about
all the the coal Santa put in its stocking (while it was still wearing them,
what a perkoff.)

I'm not even seeing the bilgefag's immature spamtrums since I killfiled its
domain, but "perkoff the jerkoff" (see below) is too stupid to understand
that.

don't forget TOTAL PANIC - it was on a few years before Nick Arcade

I remember watching Total Panic during late 1989 through summer 1990.

Total Panic was a 3 hour variety show on Sunday mornings. hosted by
Greg Lee and Molly Scott. they had all kinds of cool shit including
videogame previews/reviews. live performances by various artists.
music videos. live virtual games (eat 'a bug!) which pioneered the
technology later used in Nick Arcade.

I enjoyed Nickelodeon from the early 80s to 1990. then Nick started
to piss me off and never watched it again.

Yeah right. The Ren and Stimpy DVD now has to say "for mature audiences
only" because some stuff is considered too extreme for today's sponge bob
kids. Have you seen any shows since (or before) Ren and Stimpy that actually
showed feces, urine, vomit, flatulence? Not even Beavis and Butthead went to
the gross extremities of Ren and Stimpy (ok south park might be up there,
but it ain't a kids show). That shows creatures being killed, tortured,
eaten? I'm not saying it is necessarily better than the other shows, but to
call it tame is an outrage. They could not show episodes like dogshow, big
baby scam, or rubber nipple salesman on Nick today. I don't know how they
got away with a lot of that stuff.

Bwah. Ren and Stimpy started going down hill after Nick got pissy and fired
the creator.

Plenty of them on Adult Swim. Even Cartoon Network has had a few.

Ren and Stimpy was never really meant to be a kid's show, either. That's
where they went wrong in the first place. Then again, the way Spike TV
fucked up "Adult Cartoon Party" wasn't much good for it, either. There's
like ten or so episodes that were made but have yet to air. Viacom is just
sitting on them.

Agreed. Only the 20 or so episodes with John K. were good.

Name them. By the way Adult Swim is for adults. This was a saturday morning
cartoon, and my main problem was with the poster who said that it is tame
compared to what kids watch today. It is no way more tame than sponge bob.

Wrong. The creator John K. always said in interviews that he wished adults
didn't like it.

Then again Adult Swim isn't intended for kids. Though, they did once get
a complaint letter, written in crayon, by a 6 year old who said that the
shows on Adult Swim "sucked" and that he wanted them to show more Bugs
Bunny. The crew at Adult Swim replied with something like "WTF? What
sort of parents let their 6 year old stay up past 11pm on a school night?!"

From what I saw from that batch, it wasn't very good. Then again, the
only show that was even halfway decent from that block was Gary The Rat,
or whatever that show about the lawyer was called. Supposedly the execs
at Spike cancelled it after 2 or 3 episodes because they - literally -
"didn't get it". And Stripperella was so bad, it was almost too awful for
"bad movie night" (and we're talking BAAAAAAAAAD movies here...)

I think the execs at Nickelodeon can spot good talent, but not necessarily
talent that's appropriate for their network. Invader Zim was the ultimate
example of this... That one scene in "Bestest Friends" where you see
Kief's eyeballs ripped from his head and replaced with Zim's devilish
replacements - even in sillouette - was pretty disturbing. The commentary
on the DVD for that episode mentions that when that episode played in
Nick's corporate cafeteria, the whole room went completely *silent* when that
scene played.

I also thought it was funny when they tried to cancel the show, only to
learn that Zim merchandise was flying off the shelves and into the willing
arms of bizare 20-30-somethings. I'll say that was the first time I'd
ever been inside a Hot Topic...and I'm the wrong gender, and a good 10
years outside their target demographic.

At least they did us right by releasing the whole series onto DVD,
complete with amusing box, and small Gir toy :)

Now if only the folks at Adult Swim would give the guy his own show. The
world needs more twisted images from Mr. Vasquez...

The decline in quality at that point was QUITE steep and notable.

If they're like the ones that were released, it's better that they never
see the light of day.

It is simply breathtaking to watch the glee and abandon with which
the liberal media and the Angry Left have been attempting to turn
