There have been several people on this newsgroup who answered my original
question in the other thread with great detail and some great insights. I
have personally felt for a long time (though not at first) that Obi-Wan's
line in ESB was not inconsistent because his mission was to watch over Luke,
not Leia.

My feeling that the ESB line is consistent with the events of ROTS, however,
hang on a very THIN thread because many scenes in ESB and the one scene in
ROTS when Yoda exclaims to Obi-Wan that he has "training" for him makes it
quite clear that they remain in close contact with each other over the next
20+ years. Hence, while I have come to accept Obi-Wan's line in ESB, it
still comes off like he has forgotten about Leia, which does not seem
possible.

I originally asked the question because 1) I like to hear from other fans
what they think.......translation: LIVELY DISCUSSION, and 2), I have only
read "George Lucas sucks" comments on other sites regarding this issue. I
am a big admirer of George Lucas, this story, and how he has presented it to
us, but that is not the opinion of many fans on other sites. Plus, since I
am new to this Forum, I am also new to this community and have heard little
from others here.

I think, therefore, the remarks from certain fans on this Board (maybe only
one) who chose to resort to insults and hostility when answering my very
innocent, friendly question was uncalled for. Yes, yes, I have read all the
BS on other Fan boards about how this is a free country and we can say
whatever we want - nevertheless these comments were unnecessary and rude and
are the very things that keep newbies like me away. I know some of you are
very knowledgeable about SW, but would it be asking too much for you to
share your knowledge and opinions with others without hostility? Especially
to those of us who CLEARLY do not deserve it?

Again, thanks for the comments, but let's try to keep these comments
friendly. And unlike other newbies who get comments like the ones I read
from OSI, I plan on sticking around. Thanks.

Unfortunately, in a public forum such as this one, there will always be
those who choose to beat others down for their questions rather than answer
them simply. That will never change. Don't take this the wrong way but some
people get annoyed when a topic which has arisen many times is brought up
again by a newbie, that may in part explain the hostility. It's not your
fault. Don't be discouraged. I'm glad you're planning to stick around. It's
good to have some discussion going. May I advise you to read the AFS Charter
and AFS FAQ? They're both posted regularly by Karrde and may be of interest
to you. Welcome to AFS. : )

Thank you, Brett, for your welcome. Mike Ward had some similar kind words
(for me, anyway) and I will definitely stick around, as long as more
friendly types like yourself! Take care, and I will definitely read that
charter/FAQ soon.......

Hey, abuse......

Don't try to interpret my comments - if you have nothing nice to say, then
don't say it to me........

So are you just thinking up words at random?

Yoda always kinda could see the future possibilities better than most,
his "another" was Vadar fulfilling his prophecy. I think deep down Yoda
always had faith.

No, the "other" was Wedge. Yoda knew if Luke failed it wouldn't matter
because Wedge would blow the DS up anyway.

In fact Luke was just a scape goat. Yoda knew that he would keep the
Emperor distracted during the battle and prevent the Emperor from escaping
the DS. Come on, did you honestly think that Yoda thought a barely trained
Jedi like Luke could succeed were he had failed?

You should have seen the look on Yoda's ghostly face when he saw that Luke
had succeeded and that he was going to have to spend enternity with that
prick Anakin!

Was Leia ever consdiered to be a challange to the empire by the Jedi,
it was Luke that Obi-Wan wanted to watch over.

When Vader had Leia in Ep4 he did not detect the prescence of the force
like he did in Luke

When the crew land on the Death Star in Ep4 Vadar says something like,
"I feel something, something I've not felt since...." Was that the
obvious reference to his old master or did having Luke closeby make him
feel something else? He also mentions that the force is strong with
Luke during the Death Star battle.
When in ESP Ben says that boy is our last hope and Yoda replies there
is another it seems to me not a lack of memory on Ben's part, he just
does not consider that Leia is the one to save the Republic.

Ben has spent all his time waiting for Luke to become a powerful force
and destroy the Sith, Yoda believes that Anakin still could fulfill his
prophecy.

All 6 films are about Anakin and his rise, fall and rise again

That's what Obi-wan says, but what is Yoda's reply? ;-)

The "other" is Leia. Both Ben and Yoda believe Anakin is long gone and
past "saving". Only Luke believes he can rescue / redeem Anakin.

In response to Tarkin's question about why he believes Obi-Wan is on board
Vader says "a tremor in the Force. The last time I felt it was in the
presence of my old master." He definitely sensed Obi-Wan and not Luke.
