Dear AFT and RABT:
Thank you all for your messages these past months in response to the
softrat's death. You will see below a note from his wife Linnea, which she
asked be posted here.
You will also see that she goes into a bit more detail about George's
illness than I thought I should do back in October. I've known him since
1998, and I know that just getting through a day, each and every day, grew
ever more challenging for him.
Most of us, at one time or another, smarted from run-ins with the softrat,
but right now I miss him so much I can hardly stand it. This is when I
remind myself not to react to what I see online without giving some thought
to what may be going on offline.

Christmas 2005
This has been a year of change for the Freeman family. For those of you who
may not have heard, on October the 5th, George ( the Softrat ) got himself a
brand new celestial body! And I am still deeply grieving the loss of my
dear curmudgeon of a husband. I want to thank all of the wonderful friends
from all over the world who have sent cards and flowers, and planted trees
in honor of George, and said masses, and sent virtual bouquets and kept us
in your hearts and prayers, and attended the memorial service or wrote such
kind words---some to a complete stranger. Thank you so much. I am awed.
And George is surely touched and smiling. I would like you to know that as
his illness progressed, he could barely hold his eyelids open to see his
monitor--his lifeline to the world. And he had more and more difficulty
breathing, especially this past year. I tell you this because I know that
his frustrations leaked out in the form of sarcasm and outright caustic
comments at times. On his behalf, I apologize.
.....And so, Now, I can picture George, dancing solo to his own tune, and
in general attracting as much attention as he can from those who happen to
be nearby...and grinning ear to ear! On that note, I wish you all a
peaceful Christmas and a very good New Year.

All the best to The Family Of The Softrat (deceased).
Though I am sure The Softrat wouldn't have expected you to apologise on his
behalf. We all liked his caustic nature. :o)
I certainly looked forward to reading his points of view.

He is banished to the Outer Void, yet his Long [and
