Pegasus fights for her own kind! [message #191104] Di, 03 Januar 2006 01:59

Not quite dragon-related, but it does involve them...
Here's something worth reading if you've ever read a fantasy/fiction
novel involving horses.
The brave hero riding his fearless steed towards dragons?
Galloping continuously all day to reach his love?
Popping off the horse fresh as a daisy?
An interesting look at the way horses are portrayed in novels:

Not to mention the fact that horses won't come within a mile of a dragon.
They can smell us and they don't like it.

Well, those horses that aren't on the sentient scale of things, unlike a few
we know, *gestures to the various equines considerably within a 1 mile radius
of one dragon or another.*

Woah, interesting...

This are the kind of informative stuff I like to read. I got to say
that I do like horses. *winks*

I got to say that there's a novel. I think it is. Which is one of my
favs...

"Black Beauty" A story told mostly by the point of view of the horse.
He gets tired, misstreated (in a part of the story), and sick, among
other stuff. I think there is a movie also, cuz I remember watching it
first and then reading the book.

I really recommend it.

If you watch movies try "SPIRIT: Stallion of the Cimarron" - again
everything from the equine point of view....and do the horsies talk? Neigh,
they do not....

Hehe. I adore horses. They've been my favorite animal all my life,
more so than dragons until I realized that I was one. Even then, half
the time I act more equine than draconic. You should hear me
whinney...
Black Beauty and Spirit are both fun, as are the books and/or movies of
The Black Stallion, Misty of Chincoteague, Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken,
Black Horses For The King... Earth's Children, even though that series
doesn't actually focus on the horses... and then there's the Heralds of
Valdemar series which features spirit creatures that just happen to
look like horses but are faster and stronger than cheetahs, not to
mention telepathic, yet the books also contain tons of information
about normal horses and what their strengths and limits are, and even
characters who use training styles modeled after those used by Monty
Roberts...
In fact, if you like horses and fantasy at all, go read The heralds of
Valdemar series by Mercedes Lackey right now. It's my personal
favorite. Sadly, it does not include dragons, but it has just about
everything else. Go! Go read! Dreamseeker commands it! *chases you
all the way to the nearest bookstore by pelting chocolate at your
backs*

whew, sorry... got a little worked up there....

*Catches chololate and eats it* Mmmm. I didn't know there were so many
Equi-maniacs about here! *Sighs* Really does feel like home now... I
actually do have a MSN Group dedicated to horses, but because of the trouble
with my browser *Hits computer savagly with big stick*... it makes things
difficult to update and so on. The group is temporarally in 'dormant mode'
and it needs a bit of TLC before it is back up to it's old state.
I want to know. It might be aimed at a younger age group than most here, but
has anyone read the series: The Unicorns of Balinor? Some of my other
favourite favourites include Horsemaster by Marilyn Singer. Again, no
dragons, but it is all pretty well writen... oh well, that's all I can think
of for now. *runs off to other side of field, attempting to stop on stray
penguin*

*A* movie? Try the most remade movie of all time. o..O I think they're coming
out with ANOTHER one this next movie-year.
Not to mention all the knock-off books that have been written.
