*Looking about, searching, he smiles after finding what he was looking for*
*Wades into a patch of thick briars. Scratched deeply by the weeds, he
sets about his work*
*He works intently for hours. Briars and barbs fly this way and that until
a small, one foot-square area is cleared completely*
*Kneeling, he takes a small rusty and bent garden spade, one that has seen
better days by far, and roughly turns the soil*
*Into this ground a hole is opened and a single seed is gently placed
therein and covered over*
*Gathering the old briars for firewood, he builds a small camp, and lights a
small fire. Beside this campfire he places two seats, one to either side.*
*Quietly he sits on one of the seats beside the fire, watching his new
little patch with great intensity. He is in no rush.*
*Into the night he waits, and watches, and all the next day as rain falls,
and into the night again... *

[Morning dawns, and with it a sign of green. The seed has grown...
[With renewed determination the man rises, and starts to work on yet another
task. Venturing again into the briars, he begins cutting long branches and
stacking them into three piles, clearing more area around his planting.]
[Slowly, working with the first pile, he starts to assemble the stack into a
large throne-like chair, without removing a single bramble or thorn. A very
uncomfortable seat, indeed, but strong and sturdy. This he sets to one side
of the further cleared area where the sprout has taken root. With the
second stack, another is made, in the same fashion, and just as painful to
sit in. This he places to the other side of the cleared area, and continues
on to the last stack.]
[The last stack of branches he forms into a small, circular, wicker-work
table, again with thorns and brambles in very nasty places. Again it is
sturdy and as stable as stone. He places this between the chairs in front
of his little green sprout, close by.]
[Surrounded on all sides by the remainder of the Briar patch these items
stand, with no safe path through the ring of stinging branches.]
[Finished, he looks again to his little plant. He has worked for a long
time. The sprout, by this time, has grown a healthy stalk, and leaves are
beginning to appear in greater numbers... a single olive branch. Even as he
watches from the place he has just built, a second branch appears and
grows.]
[Working quickly, now, he reaches into his pocket and pulls out a handful of
small blue spherical stones, and places them around the inside edge of the
remaining briar patch, equidistantly around and apart. Each one so placed
softly glows.]
[He sits in one of the briar chairs, pulls out a small Irish Pipe, and
begins to play, ever so softly, ever so quietly. None beyond the briar
patch ring can hear the tune. None beyond can hear anything at all, in
fact. Beyond the ring everything is quiet save for the whispering wind.
Still, the Olive branches continue to grow, and at an alarming rate until a
virtual tree of them stands rooted in the ground where the seedling once
was. He plays on until the very branches of the Olive tree hang heavily
over the table]
[Putting away the pipe, he smiles, satisfied in his work, even though the
job is not yet complete. Wading again through the patch, he emerges this
time without an additional scratch. He walks to a nearby outcropping of
hard stone, the top flat and smooth. With a small wooden mallet, and a
chisel that has been bent into the shape of a lightning bolt, he begins to
carve. The impression of noiseless thunder (the kind you feel, rather than
hear) echoes as sparks fly from where the chisel strikes the stone. The
scent of ozone, like rain evaporating from concrete, fills the air...]

If you're waiting for a particular someone Sentinel, you might have to hint a
little harder. Posts such as this rarely come to anything--people ignore it.

Stuff is happening away from the newsgroup, I believe -- this could
well just be a status report. :)

There is no hint... just a monument to vast stupidity and reconciliation
that I have built. I am just working on a suitable marker, is all.
We have been resolving our issues in another venue.

I guess you missed the point, Draco. This monument is more of a metaphor
for what has passed, and a symbol of a better future between old friends who
have let things go too far over absurd issues. It is my sincere hope that
people might take the meaning of this metaphor and go to any lengths to
avoid any similar unneccessary stupidity of their own before it would ever
get out of hand.
For a status report; "We've opened a hole, and placed the 'hatchet' therein,
and we are now proceeding to bury it along with old issues." :o)

-the golden storm dragon examines the monument thoughtfully.-
Congradulations. Things seem to be working out better than I expected.
Though first impressions are important, I think my second impression
of you may overcome my first, especially if situation continues to
improve. I'm happy for you and Lord Flame Stryke. You could have
easily held your grudges forever, I'm sure, but this is a much better
path.

Indeed. We've had one snowfall here (some of it is still buried under a layer
of gravel, but I don't expect it to melt until we remove the gravel), but
mostly rain, rain, and more rain--when it isn't sunny and 52f.

Oh, and we're in the low to mid 40s..... Right now about 30, though,
with a high of about 39 (I'm getting better at my conversions,

I've noticed 3, and quoted all 3 messages in my complaint, since they all
came from the same ISP..... I think one was spamming your name, and I
know one was spamming Sentinel's.
Hopefully that's enough to keep moron from posting any more, since I
pointedly asked for them to be denied usenet access if it continues.

If such a thing can exist (thermometer said 34, but going out I didn't need my

That's what's known as a dry cold. When there's humidity in the air, it
feels colder. Same as in the summer, when there's humidity in the air,
it feels hotter.

Something like that. I just add 1.8F to 32 for every 1C above 0, that's
the conversion rate. I'm getting faster at the calculations.....

Actually, I don't even think it's nice in theory--trolls are a nuisance,
but making such things /illegal/ is far too much IMHO.

I've been reading some of the discussion on volokh.com (a joint blog by a
group of law professors) and have found it interesting. They do talk
about the First Amendment issues (citing precedents). They also point
out that while this is essentially an update of an existing anti-
harassment law to include Internet communication, the effects are
different because the Internet is a one-to-many medium rather than a one-
to-one medium like the phone system--which I find to be a very sensible
point.

Going the other way, it's C * 9/5 + 32. And 9/5 is 1.8, so it's 1.8 * C
+ 32

Yeah I was refered there myself by the guy who runs Crimlaw. Good
site, but far too "meaty" for my tastes - I'm more for the
lifestyle-type blogs like Crimlaw.
