If they just made Jar Jar silent or perhaps subtitled I think this movie has
the best writing in the prequels. I could have done without twato or
whatever that flying dude's name was. I thought the dialogue between qui gon
and obi wan was pretty good. the fact that maul didn't say anything made him
the one villain that wasn't ruined by gay lines. I actually didn't mind this
movie as much as episode III, and I saw it three times while I only saw ep
III a single time and won't ever see it again. My favorite parts were the
fast light saber battles, esp. the one at the end. i liked seeing jabba
again, loved his mussolini-like balcolny appearance. Oh man I hated that
stupid two headed announcer of the pod races. I liked the little impractical
droid guys that were trained to shoot in random directions and stand still
while the jedi decapitated them. Those things seemed like they would fall
apart in a stiff breeze. Loved the battle droids with the force fields - why
didn't they make more of these? An army of those things would have burned
through the gunadins in no time. The trade federation must not have had a
big enough military spending budget - those units looked quite a bit more
expensive than your standard popsicle stick droid. What a dumb idea to make
all the droids reliant on the mother ship (for power?). I was really
impressed by the scene where they unload the army of droids.
Regrettable that Anakin was fathered by midichlorines - that was stupid and
not redeemed by the Darth Plagueis parable. In fact the whole idea of
midichlorines was sort of stupid - i liked the idea of The Force a lot
better when it was mystical, before it was qualified by scientific
explanations. I used to think of it sort of the way Neo sees the matrix -
like the Jedi have this view of matter and energy that normal people can't
see. Then we find out about midichlorines and it becomes less mythological
and more tangible. I didn't like that too much.
I feel like i'm saying a bunch of bad shit even though I said it was the
best of the series. Good stuff? Maul Maul Maul!!! Silence is golden in the
new age of Lucas writing!!! The idea of a capitol planet was really cool. I
liked seeing the amiable emperor knowing what he will become. I know it was
kind of cheesy but I liked that baby Vader accidentally destroyed the mother
ship. That was good fun. Did I mention maul?

I liked Ep 1 too even though i agree that some things could have been so
much better especially all the midiclrian and immaculate conception crap. I
thought it had the best musical score of the 6 films. Duel of the fates was
so good and I feel Lucas kinda fucked up by including it in parts of Episode
2 when it seemed to be effectively Darth Maul's theme in Ep1.
Long live John Williams!

I liked that dude, more for his mannerisms and attitude than his part
in the story, scratching one leg with his other foot, thinking
everybody's trying to rip him off, snaggly teeth, looking cranky all
the time, etc. Liked his little appearance in II also where he was all
old and just sitting there and, extremely lifelike look to his face and
eyes when he's eyeballing Anakin trying to recognize him.
