I rented the ps2 game based on positive reviews from such sites as
gamespot and yahoo games. But when I played it, I couldn't believe how
freaking difficult it is. Anyone thought so?
The basic premise of the game is that you are in control of a clone
trooper in an open battlefield. Other clone troopers are there
fighting too, but you can't really issue commands to them like other
squad based games. Their AI is weak, because they often die before you
do which can lead your clone trooper to be defenseless when you try to
achieve small missions. As a result, you are shot at by droids who's
aim is very good. You die easily and so you have to restart the level.
One thing the game is added is realism in the form of your
blaster overheating and can be a bit difficult if all you want to do is
shoot away. However, the droids can shoot at you all they want without
any signs of their weapons overheating.
The game isn't like those FPS games where you can hide in a corner and
where there's only 1 enemy. You're in a wide battlefield and enemy
droids are shooting everywhere and actually can surround you.
So I'm wondering if I am playing the same game as the reviewer who just
gave it a glowering review. I'm just glad I didn't actually buy the
game.

Using Xbox, BFII has been great. When you say "The basic premise of the
game is that you are in control of a clone trooper," I assume you are
referring to the "Rise of the Empire" mode, in which you play as a
member of the 501st. Other than that, you can play a member of any side
you want. (even an ewok, a wampa, a gungan, or one of the "hero" characters)
I've been playing it on the default difficulty level, and haven't had
any problems. I finished Rise of the Empire in a few days. Maybe you
just suck. :-P <Kidding>
Being able to issue commands to the troops around you is possible in the
xbox version. I don't know about the PS2 version.
