My sister, who hasn't read the books, gave me a dressing gown.

I also got a towel, with a schnauzer on it.

Yay. That is really nice.

When my mother got home from Greenland in the summer, she said
"Sorry. I could find no good present for you." and gave me a
towel. She didn't even know...

Happy hoopy birthday! I was going to start a thread with birthday wishes
for you, but you beat me to it :-)

Well, at least in the "olden days" afda traditions I'm writing this
while slightly drunk, so I'm trying to bring in a bit of notalgia here :-)

Enjoy the last few birthday hours :-)

Whilst having known neither of you for more than this is worth, and that
still has to count for some, a slight notion urges me to not only
congratulate you both on your relativieth birthday(s), but also (due to a
presumably similar level of nigh well intoxication) to celebrate the
increasing decedance of life, the the universe and everything in general.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

Not all places are as welcoming as this, so I strongly accept. (hej)

Upon seeing the movie, I placed my copy on a toilet shelf, and worked my way
through "the universe...+". It was a nice, and still on-going revisit, which
brings me back to my days of interrailing across Europe, when I initially
read the book.

Happy UnBirthday, since I missed the official day!

I spent the last two weeks road tripping for Thanksgiving.
Unfortunately, my brother beat me at golf this year. :-(
The good news was that I enjoyed it all a lot. Even the
five hours or so I spent in Florida at my Cousin's place.

Hej! I think we have some biscuits somewhere as well... You know, the

Sounds like fitting place to read the books! Might I take this chance to
recommend the radio series as well?

Probably, although I can't tell for sure where.

Of course, you can always buy it off amazon or bbcshop, and thus get the
nice covers and everything (and the warm fuzzy feeling you actually paid
for it - combined with the hollow feeling in your wallet, of course).

The original radio series, which is the first incarnation of
hitchhiker's, is more than 25 years old, and still terrific! It consist
of the primary phase (divided into 'Fit the first' to 'Fit the sixth')
and the secondary phase ('Fit the seventh' to 'Fit the twelth').

Then only about a year ago, the three last book in the series were
turned into radio series, Tertiary phase, Quandary phase and
Quintessential phase, which are also great, and actually a lot better
than I expected, and pretty close in style to the original series.

To me, the two original phases are the very best incarnation of
Hitchhiker's, but opinions differ.

As Kåre said they are not public domain. You could try to pirate the,
though you could go for the nice covers and warm, fuzzy feeling :-)

I'll just recommend play.com. No shipping fee, I had them in less than
a week and they were only £8.99 or £9.99 each - a bit cheaper than
Amazon and BBCshop.

And yes, they were delivered to me in Denmark as I assume you want,
judged by your name and NNTP posting host ;o)

Oh, and "hej og velkommen" :-)

It honestly never occured to me, they'd be available in shops. I thought
they only remained as transcripts or bad samples on seriously nerdy
webpages.
I'll definately consider "giving them a buy".

I sound like a drunken elderly woman if I do it in a high-pitched voice.

Heh, yes. We even are three with more in the history books.

Except I don't think any history books on afda were written. But of
course, we have a fine index.
