Palpatine's fear [message #174255] Fr, 25 November 2005 23:24
David Mooney
In the scene where Palpatine is battling Mace Windu the light saber falls
from Palpatine's grasp and he emits a fearful sound as he rapidly backs away
from Windu. His fear is obvious, and this is BEFORE Anakin enters the
chamber. If Palpatine was afraid of dying at the hands of Windu BEFORE
Anakin entered the room then did it mean Windu had the upper hand as long as
Windu had a saber and Palpatine didn't? Palpatine seemed genuinely afraid.
Once Anakin entered the room then Palpatine seemed to play on Anakins
emotions for assistance. Granted, he wasn't as weak as he let on, but he did
show fear before Anakin came into the chamber.

Moreover, it took Anakin cutting off Windu's arm to deflect the saber thrust
that would have ended Palpatine's life. Without his saber, it seems
Palpatine ahd only his electricity to defend himself. Trusting a last second
save by Anakin seems unlikely. Had Anakin hesitated one more second Windu
could have taken Palpatine's head off. Why would Palpatine risk such a
thing? 1) his fear seemed genuine before Anakin's arrival and 2) he only had
electricity to defend a saber thrust, and 3) it took a save by Anakin to
seal Windu's fate. How many believe Palpatine was truly bested by Windu
before Anakin's arrival?

David Mooney, was fooled by the dark side with...

> In the scene where Palpatine is battling Mace
> Windu the light saber falls from Palpatine's grasp..

Oh the scene where Palpatine easily wipes out all the Jedi except for Mace,
holding his ground until Anakin arrives?

The very same scene where Palpatine makes faces at Mace, then conveniently
tosses out his own light saber out the window knowing that Anakin is on the
way for the big rescue?

Now, we are talking about the scene where Anakin is forced to make a choice?

If THAT is not manipulation, I don't know what is.

> His fear is obvious

You were actually fooled by Palpatine's act and would have saved him to seal
your destiny.

How about this, if Palpatine were to try that act on Luke, I highly doubt
that Luke would stop Vader from striking down Palpatine.

I mean, Vader saved Luke from Palpatine, so there is no doubt in my mind
that it was an act.

> bested by Windu before Anakin's arrival?

Apparently, you were the only one.

The sceen was reshot as so to be ambigous.

Palpatine had been kicked in the face when he "conveniently tosses out his
own light saber" and in fact probably could have been killed if that had
been Mace's plan from the beiggining.

If Anakin had not showed up the battle probably would have continued with
Palaptine using the force lighting as his primary defense and tried to
escape.

Is that your personal opinion or do you have actual fact to establish the
difference in what was on the DVD (including deleted scenes) and your
statement?

Your anticipated response will tell who was right, Palpatine or Mace.

It was answered in an edition of Starwars Insider. The answer has been
quoted several times on this news group as it also tells the story about how
originally Anakin was always there with Palpatine and Palpatine used Anakins
lightsaber.

I will look for the magazine in the mall this evening, thanks!!

But can you answer me this.

How did Palpatine use Anakin's light saber when Anakin had his own?

Think about it.

Palpatine's saber is red, Anakin's is Jedi blue.

I honestly believed that after Mustafar and Vader's suit that Palpatine
provided Vader with a brand new shiny red light saber.

Somebody who is more industrious that me can probably dig it up and provide
the full quote, I just remember that originally that the Jedi found out
about Sidious someother way and when they go to arrest him. Anakin is there
and Mace tells him to move behind them. He just stands there and Palpatine
uses the force to take Anakins lightsaber (BTW this is why the toy of
Palpatine with the lightsaber originally came in blue, not red). My guess
is Anakin uses one of the other lightsabers from one of the jedi Sidious
kills to cut off Maces arm.
