What the hell did Obi have clenched in his teeth when he came out of
the water and grabbed onto the rocks? Looked like a ball point pen
(??) A communicator? thanks

It was the same thing that he and Qui-Gon used in Episode I to swim down
to the Gungan city. A breathing gizmo.

oh ok guess I didn't expect it to be something like that since he was
just swimming to the rocks and not some deep area. thanks!

Right, so when his own troops took him completely by surprise and tried to
kill him, he instantly managed to grab the aqua breather while falling, just
moments before landing in the water below because he knew he would land in
water and not on the rocks, otherwise, he would have managed to grab onto
something to stop his fall.

Afterall, Obi-Wan knows it all -riiiight ?

Jedi can't breath underwater and he did have to swim quite a distance
so he had to use the breathing equipment from his bat... err, Jedi
utility belt. :-)

I figure he was a real whizbang genius and took a deep breath before he
hit the water, swam a little while underwater while holding his breath,
THEN took out the breathing thingee? As for the rocks, what's he
supposed to do, a quick calculation that he had a 52% chance of hitting
them, say the hell with it and don't take a breath? And managed to
grab onto what? He was falling towards the center of the cavern after
getting blasted off the wall. And they blasted at him while on the
wall, even if he could grab it again, yippee - he becomes a target
again for another blast.

The mini-air tanks to breath under-water with (I think the idea was
"borrowed" from James Bond - Sean Connery used such a device at one time or
another). Quigon and Obiwan use them to swim to Gungan City in Phantom
Menace.

What the hell are you talking about? He could have started using the
breather after he fell into the water.

Or he could have taken the breather out while falling - it is simply
stored in a pouch on the Jedi's belt, and it was a long fall.

I'm still not convinced it was a breathing apparatus. I think it might
have been a ball point pen or something.

So your suggesting the writing's on the wall?

Pause the movie next time you get to that spot and see if it is a pen.

It looked like a re-breather to me.

For technology sake, a re-breather extracts oxygen from H2O, thus allowing
the user to breathe under water.

It was a breathing apparatus. Both he and Qui Gon used them in Ep. I.

Yep. It's standard Jedi equipment carried in a puch on their belt.

Standard? Tell me, how often do you use a breathing apparatus in your
daily life, as opposed to a pen? Come on guys, like "fish" said, "The
writing's on the wall," (get it? "pen"--"writing"? LOL?).
