Picture quality of the DVDs [message #171921] Do, 24 November 2005 02:29

I just watched the original series DVDs from the 2004 set and found the
picture quality outstanding (bought the set at Target). Now I'm watching a
DVD of the "Next Generation" series (Disc 3 - "Hide and Q" -- one of 4 shows
on that disc) that I rented from Netflix and I find the picture of a lesser
quality than the original series. Anyone else find this to be true -- that
the "Next Generation" set DVDs are of lesser quality than the original
series DVDs?

Just to elaborate a bit -- the picture appears just a little fuzzier and the
colors aren't as true on NG as in the original series. Seems odd, with the
NG being much later.

With copies of DVDs, the next generation is often worse. LOL.

TOS was shot on film; early TNG was shot on video,
which is of lower quality.

It gets better later on. I find DS9 picture
quality very poor, even worse than early TNG- I
think they used cideo all the way through though
I don't know for sure.

Voyger is pretty good; the picture quality on
the Enterprise discs is outstanding.

Are you saying TNG gets better later on? Is the 6th season of better video
quality than season 1? I was thinking of buying the 6th season DVDs bit if
they are of the same quality as season 1, forget it1

Yeah, picture quality on TNG does improve from about
season 3 on. It's still not stellar, but it's fair
from there through season 7.
