Does anyone here remember the really bad juvenile BBC sci-fi series "The
Tomorrow People?" One episode had a character sneaking into someone's
office under the pretense she was there to sanitize the telephone.

Indeed. It goes to my "Top 11 web pages of the day".

BBC? Are you sure? I thought it was ITV.
I think I remember that episode. It was Elizabeth, the token girl, who
pretended to be the telephone sanitiser. She used her telekenesis to
levitate the phone as she cleaned it.
I remember I never liked the way, even though she had all those
superpowers, but she still followed orders from the boys because she was
just the girl in the team...

It was ITV. Not only was she the token female, she was also the token
black. She used her powers, as I recall, because she was trying to be
discovered by someone. Why I can't remember.

I just about remember it. I don't remember whether it was good or bad,
just that it was on at about tea time.
Oh, and something about teleporting/becoming invisible or something
that involved people being there and then not being there.
