My take on remaking IV, V, and VI....and other psychotic musings...... [message #166324] Mi, 16 November 2005 09:29
In Through The Out Do[2]
In speaking of updating the latter chapters of Star Wars, with the advent of
all of the computer technology and programming, they could make new
characters, new movements, new backgrounds...hell....new everything, and
paste the faces on the new computer generated bodies. Since we all have seen
all of the Star Wars movies ad infinitum, ad nauseum, I wouldn't at all be
opposed to new visions of Star Wars: Chapters IV, V, and VI. Besides, even
if the plot lines have been somewhat questionable, the visual quality of the
"new" Star Wars is hugely improved.

I agree with Lucas here: The original versions are out there. If you are a
motion picture purist, go get them. Star Wars was as popular back then as it
is now and videotapes are numorous. Transfer them to DVD and clean them up
yourself. We have the technology now that even the entry level computer user
has access to computer programs that do such a thing.

In my own experience watching Star Wars, these new three have visually
outclassed the original Star Wars movies. If Lucas decides on a new vision
for the latter chapters, I wouldn't mind. As a matter of fact, I'd be
estatic! Of course, I also think that the original Star Trek series should
be completely revised, reworked and re-envisioned from the old source tapes
with the original voices, stories and such completely intact. Some people
may say that that makes me certifiable....well, strap my butt into a
straight jacket, 'cause I guess I am. Flame away.

But seriously, folks, I've heard that George Lucas is going to release all 6
chapters in 2007 using a process of 3-Dimensional film engineering that
doesn't require 3-D glasses to view the film (heard that straight from a
movie theater managers mouth). I'm wondering if the final chapters are going
to be tinkered with yet again.

Having said that, what I REALLY want to see from Lucasfilm is a DVD package
that is very similar to what the Wachowski Brothers did for "The Matrix",
but more extensive. I want a 20+ disc set of all things Star Wars. I would
expect to pay (and I will gladly pay it) $300+ for it, but I want it. All of
the "Making Of" specials, the lots of actor and production commentaries,
lots of cutting room floor footage, complete scripts starting from
"Starkiller" to the new ending for ROTJ....storyboards, art work, RALPH
McQUARRIE concept art, a decent JOHN WILLIAMS tribute disc....in other
words, anything and everything Star Wars, complete with an all inclusive
"Star Wars Encyclopedia" coffee table book to refer to while viewing the
movies. The original movies paired with the updated movies would be great,
too.

PS: Other than Star Wars, I have a cool suggestion for you Indy fans. Watch
"Raiders Of The Lost Ark" with the color turned all the way down on your TV.
To me, it looks something like a Bogart (or any GOOD film noir film of the
period). I've wondered if Spielberg deliberately followed the late
30's-early 40's style of film-making so closely that he shot the film as if
he intended the film to be released AS a black-and-white adventure movie
from the WWII era that just happened to be shot in color. That's the one
thing that I've always wanted to ask either S.S. or G.L. if I met them. I've
watched "Raiders" and "Casablanca" back to back and the similaries in the
photograpy and lighting are, at times, amazing. If you try this out, notice
the way the shadows fall and, also, the way that the props, clothes and
special effects blend into the scenery, just as they HAD to do to make a B &
W picture blend well to look good in those days.

This is true. The plan at the moment is to re-release one 3D-erised
movie each year, but they don't really know when they're going to
start.

George Lucas has also reportedly (by Steven Spielberg) said that they
plan to release a 3D-erised version of the new Indiana Jones movie as
well, simultaneously with the normal version.

It's a bit of a gimmick really, just like the IMAX-isation of some
movies. But, IBM and others have announced various 3D TV devices, so
you might soon "have" to buy 'Star Wars 3D' on HD / Blu-ray DVDs. :-)
