| I think the Universe is trying to tell me something... [message #160359] |

Strange occurances have been happening for the last few days.
1) My newsreader all of a sudden gets exceedingly slow, as if there
isn't enough RAM. This is half solved by clearing the message database
(didn't delete, just renamed).
2) Around the same time my newsserver stops accepting my posts (reason
"Smells liek Spam"), also gives bogus number of messages waiting on the
server (on upwards of 6,323,207 right now). After solving #1, this
still occurs. Newsserver company is in the process of moving the free
service to a new server. Email the company explainging that I can't
post, still no responce (previously it would take a number of days
equal to how long until the problem is resolved + 3 days and get a
responce of "there isn't a problem with the sever, never was"). This
post made using Google.
3) The US Postal service or the Drexel University internal mail service
loses a package for me with my dorm room key in it (Drexel playing the
Blame-Bounce Game). It will cost $240 to rekey the entire suite if I
can't find the key.
4) Today I lost my Drexel ID card. Here's how: Go to Digital Media
building to scan film for homework, get into the basement (the DIGM
dept.) and then again to get into the scan room. Attempt to leave
behind my jacket when leaving, use the ID card to get into the room
again. Get jacket, turn off light, leave. Get to dorm and can't find
key, check all my pockets (get in on "I left it somewhere"). Later go
back to scan room and do not find my ID card. The equipment room
hasn't had anyone say "I found this." Come back to my room (again with
the "I still can't find it, I'll check one more time and get a new one
later") and check my jacket pockets again. Still no luck.
5) USB flash drive (4.0 GB) dies taking a homework assignment with it.
It will take at least a week to ship it to California for the company
to replace it (with posible data recovery). Needed recipt, took a few
days to get a reprint from Staples. Recipt and RMA form needs to be
mailed to CA *first* and get authorization to send the drive. Oi.
6) Need a new router, the one I got for free as a hand me down from
relatives is broken. I knew the wireless range sucked and had recently
changed (going from a 50+ foot radius to less than 10 feet), but I
figured the wired connections were still good. Didn't have a problem
using it until I get it home and set it up in my dorm. Now it's about
as stable as a guest on Jerry Springer.
7) Getting Chinese food the last day of jury selection got me the
following fortune: "You would make a good lawyer." Despite the bad
omen, I was not selected. I swear they must have a sparate set of
fortune cookies for the jurors they watch walk across the street. I've
never seen a fortune so specific as to mean only one thing. Oh, and we
were on the 13th floor of the courthouse.
8) SEPTA (South Eastern PA Transportaion Authority) workers went on
strike Monday, meaning I had to walk from 33rd to 6th at 8am to get to
the courthouse. And then walk back again after sitting doing NOTHING
for 9 hours.
My life is becoming far to interesting in the paces where I wish it
wasn't. I've pretty much accepted that I'm out $240 for the room key
and $20 for a new ID card, plus postage for the USB drive (and the fact
that I need to re-do the homework, which was due two days ago, but I
was on jury summons, so I can still finish up for next week). I'm
certain I'm going to have to shell out $30 for a new router, although
radio shack is severly limited and only has switches (I want a hub). I
am loath to mail anything to my dorm room. I don't think there's
anything I can do about my newsservice other than complain and complain
and hope that they respond sometime in the near future.
I've also found that I hate my photography class. There was no
indication on how much money I would be spending prioor to taking the
course. Currently my spending has included 7 rolls of black and white
film: $50, 7 rolls of film to develop (3 done): $3.29 a roll, 10 sheets
of glossy photo paper will need to be purchased: $10, and $15 for
various supplies the professor has supplied.
Not to mention the value of my dignity. I feel like an ass taking
pictures of trash cans, water spigots, and street lamps. Not to
mention looking like a tourist wandering around Philadelphia with a
camera (fully manual SLR) around my neck.
And then there's the Human-Computer Interaction course where the
professor has the first paper due on a Thursday and the second one on a
Tuesday. And the class is about how to intellignelty design a complex
system for ease of use. Every other professor I've ever had had a set
day ALL homework was due (generally Midnight the day before the next
class (technically the day of class, but going to bed at 3 am on a
Wednesday I still think of it as being Tuesday)). And the HCI
professor can't lecture or write essay questions worth a damn, he uses
the same powerpoint presentaion for the entire week (and no new
information). Missing two classes would not effect how much you learn.
The essay questions are so poorly worded to not only give you the
feeling of freedom for writing the essay, but the feeling of "what the
f*ck does he want?"
*Sigh* Some days I feel like just killing myself, other days make me
think of what could possibly end the frustration/pain/whatever faster
and easier.
And then there are days like today.
(And no, I'm not suicidal.)

It looks like his failed attempts to post via Google (that led to 502 errors)
actually posted the message without his knowledge.
Since I can't tell whether you're joking or not, I'll just point out that this
is (or at least, was) a family-oriented newsgroup, i.e. you should probably
calm down the language a bit.
In the case that you were not being jovial: dude, calm down. He said he was
having newsreader problems.

Personally, I don't see references to damnation as being terribly
offensive, these days. Obviously, standards vary somewhat from place
to place, though.

I concur with that, however. <:)

Indeed that must be the case, I appologise for the extras.
If it happens for this post I will assume that it went through.
