Padme, Never Happy With Her Current Outfit/Hairstyle... [message #160249] Do, 03 November 2005 19:48

Has anyone ever counted how many times this wench changes hairstyle/clothing
during one episode? GEEZ!!! I don't think Leia changed that often. Maybe
once or twice per film.

I've seen a couple parodies that make fun of this -- literally, every
time she shows up, even if it's the same scene, Padme's looks
completely different.

Now I understand why she had all those damn handmaidens with her all
the time: I'm sure they all had a significant portion of her wardrobe
on her person at all times, just in case she felt like a fashion
shakeup. :p

Padme had many chances to change clothes; and each movie could take
place over the course of many days. Leia, on the other hand, was a
prisoner in ANH. She spent all of ESB running from the Empire; and the
few chances she got in ROTJ, she did change.

I think George Lucas went waaay overboard with Padme's wardrobe on the
prequel trilogy. Her constant changes from one flabouyant costume to
another is so distracting, that I feel it had a negative impact on the
films, especially AotC.

I mean, for christsakes, who goes into "hiding" from assassins by going
to the lakeside wearing a sexy bare-back dress that made her look like
a Disney rendition of a barbie-doll medieval English princess? WTF was
up with padme dressing up with a corsetted dominatrix outfit, just to
tell Anakin she just wanna be "friends"?

Now if she was wearing an unremarkable t-shirt while hiding from
assassins, and if she was wearing plain overalls while insisting to
Anakin she's not interested in him, I would've found those scenes a bit
more believable.

But the fact is she wasn't not interested in him was she? She wanted him
just as much as he wanted her. She just didn't want to admit it or let it
happen because she knew it would cause trouble for both of them given that
at the time it was forbiddin (especially for a Jedi)
