Canadian Ep 3 DVD - Pissed off! [message #160216] Do, 03 November 2005 03:45

Any Canadians reading this?

I'm really pissed that the cover for Ep 3 is in English AND French...
meaning that it doesn't fit in with the rest of the DVDs, which have
just English on the spines and covers. So I have five DVDs that say
Star Wars, the titles, and the numbers, then I have this one that has a
whole bunch of tiny printing down the spine "Star Wars : La Revanche Des
Sith", and looks ridiculous.

I should write to FOX.

You could download another cover and print it out and slip it in the
case. If you get good quality paper it can look pretty much perfect.

Or you could help a child learn something, maybe drive for an elderly
person who can't, help your town or city's shelters prepare for the
winter . . . any number of things just slightly more pressing than
worrying about what to do abou the printing on the spine of a DVD case.

Merry Christmas.

The amount of time is not the point.

Well, it could have been worse. For example, they could have written
"La Guerre des =C9toiles: La Revanche des Sith" ! Perhaps the Qu=E9bec
government will ban Episode III DVD sales as the cover does not comply
with "la charte de la langue fran=E7aise" !

Seriously now, why are Anglophone people so culturally self-centered ?

It wasn't in any way anti-French. I'm quite proud to be from a=20
bilingual country. I've spent quite a bit of time in Montreal and love=20
Quebec.

I'm simply stating that it's ridiculous that Fox couldn't print a two-
sided DVD cover (French/English) just like they did for the other five=20
discs in the set. This option also gives French fans a chance to=20
display THEIR DVD's with all-French sleeves.

I just think it was an oversight (or purposeful to force the purchase of=20
the three-disc set).=20

While I certainly agree with you, look at it this way; at least you don't
have a bright blue 'M' on the spine and front-cover, like Australia has had
to put up with. (Ratings rules were changed recently.)
Seriously considered coloring over it with some black ink.

The actually meaning of the ratings is still the same (M for Mature, R for
Restricted, etc.) but, the ratings symbols have been changed...
To see what I mean, in reference to Revenge of the Sith, here's an image
http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/780285
All the newer releases have these atrocious symbols. (Bright yellow for PG,
bright red for MA, bright Green for G. R, fortunately, is a relatively
unobtrusive black (but the symbol still covers most of the picture.)

Here's an example of the what the old 'M' rating looked like...
http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/221340

Of course, I mainly blame the OFLC, but 20th Century Fox should have made
the ratings a sticker, seeing as this cover-image is *supposed* to
correspond to the earlier covers for Phantom Menace and Attack of the
Clones.

Think about why you would chastise somebody on the Star Wars newsgroup
for talking about the Star Wars DVD smart guy. If my DVD came packaged
in French I'd be pissed too. There are TONS of things more pressing
than a DVD and I think everyone knows that. I guess I should stop
watching movies altogether cuz I could give the money to starving people
or I could not eat out and give the money to help the Lesbians against
Bush crusade. Quit preaching your holier than thou crap.

chas=B7tise (chas-tiz', chas'tiz') pronunciation
tr.v., -tised, -tis=B7ing, -tis=B7es.

1. To punish, as by beating. See synonyms at punish.
2. To criticize severely; rebuke.

In neither sense did I chastise anyone for talking about a DVD, in this
group or any other.

If you think you should, then that would be a very kind and noble thing

Given the context, yes, you did chastise Anon Y Mous. Either that or you

What context changes the meaning of the word "chastise"?

So far, nothing in this thread. The second definition ("2. To criticize
severely") is exactly what you did.

As 'Shane W' pointed out;
- this is a Star Wars newsgroup
- the original post was about Star Wars DVDs
- the person who you replied to was simply suggesting a method of fixing
the OP's problem

Your reply, which contained a list of many other things that person
could do with their time, was criticizing that person's use of time,
insinuating he/she would be wasting their time, with something not so
'pressing'. Your simple 'suggestions' wouldn't be considered bad; but
put it in a forum in which the subject of your post is completely
off-topic, and in response to a specific post, your simple 'suggestions'
cannot (and should not) be interpreted as such.

And I suggested something else.

A suggestion is not criticism. That you see it as such says much about
yourself.
