Some new quotes from 'The Hunt for the Ring' have been published in 'A
Reader's Companion'.

>2. Were the barrow blades magical? In what way?

<<Escaping a wound which would have been as deadly to him as the
Mordor-knife to Frodo, [the Witch-king] withdrew [...]>>

/The Hunt for the Ring/ mentions all the suggestions in the FAQ, but
puts most emphasis on Frodo's sword. It also says that Aragorn seemed to
the Witch-king to be "a great power" and that the Witch-king was "shaken
by the fire of Gandalf"

Has that been published yet?

Brilliant! I'll get to a bookshop very soon then!

Thanks! I'll be looking forward to the book, and once I have it (and
once I have time) I'll add those quotes to the FAQ. (They're still
not "completely canonical" by any definition, of course, but more
evidence is always good. :) )

Curses! Not only do you Brits already have the book available, but it
looks like you get to have a paperback edition, too. (Same thing with
textbooks... years ago, I ordered my statistical mechanics book from
the UK because even after exchange rates and shipping, the UK
paperback was still far cheaper than the US hardbound version.)

It's not entirely clear to me when the US edition will ship, actually.
Amazon's stated expected dates are just screwy. (For Hammond and
Scull's other project, the two-volume /Companion and Guide/, Amazon
lists a Nov. 1 release date for each volume separately, but Oct. 21
for the box set... but in any case none of them are available yet.)
The /Reader's Companion/ has a stated date there of Dec. 27, just in
time for the major "last minute New Year's gift" shopping season. :)

I guess we'll get them when we get them. Maybe it's time to pre-order
the lot!
