Just introducing myself :) [message #147836] Do, 13 Oktober 2005 17:10

Hello! I think it was back around 97 or so I was in Denver. I went to
the Tattered Cover Bookstore and saw a "The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide
to the Galaxy". I started reading it in my free time.. I would forget
about it, then read a chapter or two... Forget about for a few months,
read another chapter or two.

Then last year I finally sat down and finished it off... It was so good
I had to read the whole thing over again! I realized how good of an
author Douglas Adams was from that experience. So, I went down to the
library and got "The Long Dark tea Time of the Soul". Which was also a
very good book! At that time I also found out that Douglas is no longer
with us. I was looking forward to more great books.

I got my mom started on my copy of the Ultimate Guide (she is still
working on it, she seems to pay more attention to her own books. She
did like it enough, that I convinced her to go to the theatre to see
the movie.

I really enjoyed it! At first I was kind of let down that it didn't
follow the book too great. Then I remembered, the books didn't follow
the radio transcripts, which didn't follow the tv show... Nothing
followed anything! Then I rented the movie again last night, and I
realized that it is an awesome movie in it's own right. I will
definatly be buying it! I am honored to have my ultimate guide that I
can read whenever I am down, and need a few thousand good laughs lol.

Have you tried:

"Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency"

which is the precursor to TLDTTOTS.

Also:
"The Meaning of Liff"
"The Deaper Meaning of Liff"
(both with John Lloyd).

Basically combinations of words (normally only seen loafing about on
signposts pointing at places) and meanings (for which there weren't
words to describe).

and:
"Last Chance To See"
(with Mark Carwardine).

Non-fiction, but very Douglas, book about a series of adventures that
he and Mark took to document nearly-extinct species around the world.

Shhh!!! At the risk of starting Yet Another One Of Those Threads, it's
best to leave discussion of the movie to the statement:

"Some people liked it. Some people hated it.
They're both right.
Just. Leave. It."

Excellent outlook on life. Welcome to our froup.

Just a minor technicality here....The radio show didn't actually follow the
TV show....The radio show came first, then some of the books, then the TV
series came along...Then there were more books, and there then followed a
few more radio series and a movie too....
Somewhere in amongst all that, there was a computer game and a graphic novel
or two, but I'm not sure how they fit into the whole chronology....

But you're absolutely right about the variations in the story-lines....For
me that's one of the great charms of the works....

Anyway, welcome to the fold.....Pull up a chair and make yourself at home...

Well, personally, I'm ot brave enough to call anyone with nuclear weapon
capabilities for untrustworthy to his face (or for that matter, his
newsfroup).

Hmm, wait. I tell a lie! I would call George Bush untrustworthy any day!

Come to think of it, I think most of the powers owning nuclear weapons
are untrustworthy.

Hmm, in that case I suppose Uncle Lloyd is really the exception here...

Don't Panic!

There are many plethora of biscuits available, including (but not
limited to):

chocolate (dark, milk and white)
lemon
custard creams
bourbons
hob nobs
ginger
cheese
water
crackers
some with a hole in the middle
some minty ones in foil wrapping
and
those weird pink ones

Now, who's for first dibs? There are plenty.

Lloyd

If that choice wasn't good enough I have some plain
whole wheat Ritz crackers. Quite yummy with tea.

Actually just a stupid undercover aglami reference...

Which *might* make you wonder why the word "intelligence" showed up in
that sentence!

Still, Kenny seems to know a lot of undercover stuff about uncle
Lloyd.
