One can only hope this post works. Anyone know how to reinstall Outlook
Express so it doesn't show a pop-up window that lacks text when you post to
a newsgroup?

Seems that the pop-up window only comes up when I send a post using Reply
Group. Anyone know how to repair Outlook Express on Windows XP?

I believe you have to save your contacts list to a file first, then reinstall
it. Here's what I did.

1.) Open outlook Express and click on the addresses button. Then go to
file>Export>Address book(WAB) and save it as a file somewhere you will remember
where it is. You may have to do this for each one if you have multiple accounts
on there.

2.) Uninstall Outlook Express using the add/remove software tool in the control
panal folder.

3.) Reinstall Outlook Express from this website:
http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Outlook-Express-Downlo ad-40.html

Hope this helps.

No, it is a blank popup except for three blank buttons that do nothing.

How about Windows 98 SE? Can you find something on Google to reinstall IE
on that? My dad tends to complain about it a lot.

Any popup opened up in Internet Explorer freezes up without a popup blocker.
Trying to install critical updates for the OS also results in Internet
Explorer locking up.

1) scan for viruses and spyware (very important; smart virus writers
will do anything to prevent a computer from downloading updates)

2) use Firefox or another non-Microsoft browser when possible (I know
this won't fix the update problem, but at least the browser won't freeze
whenever a popup opens)

3) repair the installation: (make sure you have a Windows CD
available) click start, settings, control panel, double click
add/remove programs, select Microsoft Internet Explorer (make sure it
doesn't have QB8968 or any other seemingly random numbers at the end),
click the "add/remove" button, and choose the "repair" option

4) I don't know if this works, having never tried it myself:
# Start the Registry Editor
# Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Active Setup \
Installed Components \ {89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}
# right-click the IsInstalled value, and then click Modify
# Change the value data, from 1 to 0
# Close the registry editor
# Download and install Internet Explorer 6.
5) I don't know if you can do this on 98, but do it if you can:
Start > Run > regsvr32 wuapi.dll > OK
Start > Run > regsvr32 wups.dll > OK
Start > Run > regsvr32 wuaueng.dll > OK
Start > Run > regsvr32 wucltui.dll > OK
Start > Run > regsvr32 atl.dll > OK
Start > Run > regsvr32 MSXML3.dll > OK

6) if none of that works reinstall Windows or give Linux a try, or both.

Hope this helps.
