I bought the last three phases of the audio drama from amazon.co.uk,
and loved them to death. (Only quibble could possibly be: not long
enough. Shoulda been 6 episodes for each phase.)
Then, I bought the accompanying script book. The book's notes are
constantly referring to the amazing 5.1 Surround Sound versions that
are far superior to the standard CD versions.
Well, I grew up in the 70's, and I remember the brief affair we had
with Quadrophonic stereo. So, I'm willing to give these a listen.
But where in Belgium can one find these surround sound mixes for sale?
Am I not searching Amazon properly? Are they not released yet?

Tertiary Phase DVD-A has been put back to spring 2006.
Search for the ISBN: 0563504579
Dirk was annoyed by the lack of extras and so he told the BBC to add
some more.

The cynic in me says that the CDs are released now so that people will
buy those now, then spend more money buying exactly the same thing
again later, only in surround sound. If there's one thing marketing
departments like better than selling a successful product, it's selling
the same product numerous times. Just look at the amount of times some
DVDs have been re-released as a "Special Edition", "Director's Cut",
"Extreme Edition", "Ultimate Edition", etc. Personally, as I do almost
all of my music/audio listening in the car, I won't be getting the
DVD-A versions, as I can't use them there. I've just got the Complete
Series on CD; that's the third time that I've bought the first 2
series, and that's enough.

But that's not the case - Dirk Maggs has argued for them to be released
later so that there can be more extras.
So, the cynic in you is wrong, to put it plainly. Dirk's not out to get
profits, he's a fan. If it had been an executive decision I'd say you
were right.

Ah. But Dirk also claimed in a chat that all three would be released on
the same DVD to make it cheaper for the buyers, and that it was released
later to make the production cost lower, since it was at that time
dropping rapidly.
And what happens? They are released separately after all.
So Dirk doesn't completely have the final word, it seems...

I assume that even a fan "in charge" has to fight "profit" which seems
to be a massive enemy...
Oh, at last I am getting close to catching up. I should stop doing so
much so-called "serious" stuff and use more afda time.
