Rent the DVD [message #139234] Mi, 28 September 2005 13:10

My advice to any Douglas Adams fans who haven't watched the movie or
bought the DVD yet is to rent it and watch it. That way you can form
your own opinion about it.

Lots of people hate the movie. Some of the people who hate the movie
hate it so much that they think everyone else should hate it too and
that people who haven't seen it yet shouldn't see it.

Lots of other people love the movie. Some of them love it so much that
they can't understand why some people hate it so much.

Don't listen to any of them. Watch the movie. Make up your own mind.
But then keep it to yourself.

This has been a public service announcement on behalf of the
Sick-of-people-banging-on-about-the-movie Campaign.

Absolutely. If you haven't already seen it.

Do lots of people hate it ? I don't.

It is odd how people seem to think everyone else should agree with their
view. I wouldn't want everyone to agree with me but I'd hope they can
undstand my view and why I feel that way.

Yes people should make up their own minds. Yes they should watch the movie.
But people can and should listen to others adn they are liberty to similarly
discuss their thoughts. If we can't have a chat about a movie then whats the
world coming to ???

Your advice was to not listen to such people so you are hearby ignored ;o)

Me neither! I quite enjoyed it. Wasn't perfect, had some great bits,
some good bits, some bad bits, like any movie.

Agreed - I can't understand why some people can't accept that the whole
"good movie / bad movie" thing is a matter of opinion. Nobody is right
or wrong.

Yup, agreed again - we *should* be able to discuss our opinions about
anything, but as you noted above, there are some who can't accept that
other people have different opinions and seem to think that someone has
to be "right". I'd love to be able to chat about the movie without it
descending into something along the lines of "The movie sucked / No it
didn't / Yes it did and if you loved it you're a freak / DON'T WATCH THE
MOVIE!!!! / I have a bigger penis than you"..... (I'm sure you know what
I mean..... :-)

But by ignoring me you are also listening to me and doing as I said....
so by rights you should now be disappearing up your own quantum
singularity.... ;o)))

But maybe I do have bigger penis!

Then again, it's not as long as the penis of a sperm whale ... innocent my
a$$ ... with a penis that long, I'd be a lot less than innocent.

At least that's an argument where someone can end up being right! :-)

Oh I dunno - surely the bigger the penis, the more restricted you are in
terms of where you can, well, stick it? I'd have thought that a penis
the size of a sperm whale's would only really be suitable for inserting
into other (presumably female) sperm whales.

So yes, you'd probably be a lot less than innocent amongst your local
sperm whale population, but other females would probably give you a very
wide berth for fear of being ruptured..... :-)))

I don't think anyone can deny it's a good film. It just isn't a brilliant
film. I liked it very much, personally. A Godfather or a Das Boot it isn't,
though.

You wait and see. You've baited them. They'll be coming out of the
woodwork now.

Ah crap .. do you know what that just put into my head? Both HHG characters
saying (slightly modified) lines from the Godfather, or Godfather actors
playing roles in HHG.

"It's a Betelgeusian message. It means Luca Brassi sleeps with the
Babelfishes" - Clemenza

"I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse" - Vogon Captain

Bah, you've started it now.
