I'm a bit embarrassed: I made some changes to the FAQ in late June and
early July, but somehow failed to update the version posted to the
newsgroups for two full months after that. The changes are listed in
detail in the FAQ itself; quite a few of them were inspired by
suggestions from Christopher Kreuzer. (Thanks!) Once I have a spare
moment, I'll try to figure out how to avoid this sort of delay in the
future.
In my defense, I've been busy with Real Life work lately: I published
a string theory paper late in July (you can read a summary for
non-specialists on my website at
http://www.slimy.com/~steuard/research/KKmonLoc/), I'm still working
hard on related projects and other physics questions, I've moved to a
new apartment, and there's still this essay on the Uruk-hai that I'm
supposed to be updating.
At any rate, this is now the "new" version of the FAQ. Sorry for the
delay. :)
