Ordered mine from Play.com - should arrive tomorrow. £12.99 and free
delivery. I'd rather have an original that a ripped off copy.

Same here, unfortunately, Play charge an arm and a leg to deliver to
Ireland, so it doesn't actually work out any cheaper than buying DVDs
in the shops :-(
I'll be skipping work early tomorrow to get into town and buy a copy :-D

I buy films I really, really like, copy on dual layer those I really like,
rip to single layer those I like.
I will not even rip HHG if given the opportunity. I don't ever want to see
it again.
It's a travesty.

Fifty to one hundred thousand dead in New Orleans in a disaster that could
have been prevented is a travesty. The Hitchhiker movie that you didn't
find entertaining isn't. You need a session in the Total Perspective
Vortex.

Actually, I enjoyed the movie and have bought the DVD. As a piece of
entertainment, it does the job but I can't see me watching it again
very often
I listened to the second radio series for the zillionth time last
night and it is in a totaly different league. I don't think its spirit
could ever have been done justice in the screen.

I feel like an AOL'er, since I'm posting mostly to agree completely with
what you said. It could have been done a little better on screen, but
then, it's not easy to please everyone.
Actually, a colleague of mine who is also a fan of the guide, although
not quite as fanatic as I am, actually thought that the thing that
worked the least was the inclusion of any guide entries at all, which he
felt didn't work on screen. Funnily enough, I found those passages some
of the most enjoyable. Goes to show.

And a piece of duct tape across the mouth, IMHO. We went through this ages
ago - no-one started even discussing how good the movie was, why did you
feel a need to bring it up?

I actually went out and bought the DVD today, couldn't get out of work
early, which actually turn out pretty well - in an odd king of way!
The Local Tesco here in Galway didn't have Hitchhiker's, neither did
the Zhivago's (music, video & DVD place) opposite - I was kind of
depressed about that. As luck would have it, I was walking dejectedly
back to the car and passed an XtraVision, mainly rental stuff, but I
went in anyway...
I got back home around 6pm and have just watched the film, the extra
'bonus' bits on the first DVD and the 2nd DVD, see if I can remember
this...
The Documentary of
the making of
the film of
the book of
the radio series of
The Hitchhiker's Guide
To The Galaxy
Cost =8040 (and it's worth every penny, sorry cent), because the only
copies they had left where the collectors (book, DVD and post-card box
set) - hence rather lucky that I couldn't get out of work earlier. So
I'm now the proud owner of no. 3458 of 20,000 limited edition box sets
and I got a free 'special edition' Hitchhiker's mug as well, which was
nice ;-)
I must say, that when I saw the film at the cinema, I was in two minds
about it, having watched it again I can say that it gets better the
more times you see it.
The opening of Journey Of The Sourcerer send a shiver down my spine as
the Book drifted in space.
I never knew him, but I suspect DNA would be proud of how it's been
done.
DON'T rip it, buy it!

I've got a ripped copy already - but went and did the *decent* thing and
bought the original today (I will only ever indulge in piracy as a
'stop-gap', till I can pay my dues). £14.97 from Music Zone was the best
*high street* price I could find, although I imagine it is cheaper online -
I would urge you to buy a proper version, with all due respects.

Are there two versions out? Mine claims to be a double disc "special

It appears that there's a 2 DVD special edition and a 2 DVD special
edition with a copy of the book and 6 'limited edition' post card
prints...
Although at =8040, it is a bit steep, but I thought what the hell, they
haven't got any other versions there and I'm not allowed out often on
my own with money ;-)

Good for you then. I wish I'd have waited a bit and realised there was a

Just about to pop it into the tray of my player now, as it happens.

In order to show my appreciation for the film industry I buy the films I
really, really like, I'm sure I say that above.
Doesn't mean I won't go to the cinema to see a film, if I'm that bothered
about seeing it. Saw Revenge of the Sith at the cinema, Hitch Hikers
(FWIW), Batman Begins, etc..
I'm still paying your wages occasionally, don't panic. Or I would be, if I
knew which cinema you worked at.

Interesting effect :-)
Since people have started using disaster and tragedy (and indeed train
wreck) about bad performances it has been automatically assumed that the
word 'travestry' used in the same context has the same meaning. I'm even
guilty of assuming the same thing myself without ever checking. There
must be a word for that effect :-)

If it is OK for people to reply saying that they will buy the DVD it should
be just as acceptable to reply saying that they won't. It is entirely on
topic.
I think whether people buy the DVD or not is a good measure of how much they
liked the film.
I won't be rushing out to buy one either, though I might pick one out of the
bargain box when they find their way there.

Well the guy said he bought the DVD and if he liked it he then ripped it so
that he could use the copy and keep the original in good nick. Those he
really liked he copied at a better quality than those he wasn't so keen on.
In his view HHGG wasn't worth this effort.
Technically it is still breach of copyright in this country but not all
European countries are the same and in some it is perfectly OK to copy disks
you have bought (as long as it's for your own usage).
