Wish they would do a startrek on Earth. [message #118595] Fr, 26 August 2005 20:08

Of course then it wouldn't be a "trek" strictly speaking, but then again was
DS9 a trek or did they just stand around a space station while the adventure
came to them. Maybe a show about an earth detective or a cop, not part of
starfleet, who has to solve crimes in the star trek era universe. i always
find the episodes that take place on earth fascinating.

That kind of show I would think would need to be set on a different
planet. In the Star Trek universe Earth is a utopian paradise,
which means it's not that interesting for purposes of dramatic
storytelling.

I like the idea of showing how things in space affect earth and
visa versa more much more than they do.

I like the idea of another Trek series but you would have to have a very
strong theme to be earth bound only, maybe a search for a nasty alien race
that has infiltrated the general population and were slowly trying to take
over. A secret Star Fleet organisation could be set up (or a branch of the
one from DS9) to track them down and you would see a different storyline
each week in a different part of earth society - Military, Civilian,
Scientific etc and the team would have to have special powers of some
description to enable them to keep up with the ever changing sophistication
of the alien plans. Just a thought?

I know they have eliminated poverty and everyone is rather content, but that
does not mean there are not criminals on Earth. Afterall, Earth's closest
neighbor, Mars, is a complete slum. There are also prisons on Earth, as seen
in the first episode of voyager. Also, Jean Luc's asshole brother lives
there.

Not bad - sort of reminds me of the episode where the brain bugs have hold
of starfleet command.
