Quick question. [message #111832] Fr, 19 August 2005 06:32

If a yellow dragon and a platinum dragon mated and had hatchies, would
their children become citrine colored?

Interesting question. I think it would be a matter of dominant and
recessive genes, so most of the hatchlings would end up one color while
some, if any, end up the other. I doubt there would be much mixing.

More to the point, what is a semimetallic semichromatic, or gemstone
like color that appears grayish yellow?

The reason for this is that I want to make a conversion to DnD.

Hm, to be honest, heliodor is light enough yellow to be a combination
of yellow and platinum. I guess I figured it out on my own.

Citrine? Well, in gemology citrine is a solid fast healer but portends
farewells in the near future. I'm not certain we'd want that. ^_^

The 2nd edition draconomicon has rules for that, best to check there.
As I recall, you roll a percentile die to see how much like/different
in colouration the hatchlings are between Parent A and Parent B, where
parent A is the fater. Also, the colouration does blend. In other
words, if the father were red and the mother were white, and you rolled
a 27, that hatchling would be just slightly whiteish-red, but mostly
red. (27% white, 73% red) I hope that helps.

It also states that it could have certain aspects of each parent. For
example, red dragons have red eyes, but a red/gold hybrid might be gold
with red eyes, or red with gold eyes. Basically, it's all up to you how
you want your dragon to look. You could make a candy striped one, with
diagonal red and white stripes if you really wanted to..... Stick out
like a sore tooth, but it'd at least be unique..... };=8Þ
