Hi guys
I am just curently watching all of the DS9 episodes, right now on mid season
6.
I am just wondering why does everyone on DS9 hate gul dukat so much?
Also, does he ever get killed in any of the episodes?
Thanks

If I remember right he gets killed in season 6 and then gets killed every
other episode in season 7, except for the 3rd one.

Possibly because he is mind-bogglingly evil?

Yes, in the last one.

You're thinking of Weyoun.

I saw that his daughter got killed, that was pretty sad and I don't know, it
should not have been written that way, but I guess that's what makes DS9 a
show that everyone loves. I heard that he kills Dax, which just pisses me
off, I mean writters should not have done that shit. That's just fucking
stupid, but the acress that played Dax didn't want to do it anymore for
season 7. Anyhow, couldn't there been a petition or something to keep her on
the show, cauze I am sure she let down a lot of people by having Dax killed.
I remember in one episode where Dukat and Sisko got stuck in a cave, Sisko
concludes that Dukat is absolutly evil, which was a lil over the top cauze I
didn't see what the hell the big deal was. I mean Dukat was like I should
have killed all Bjorans, but he didn't so why is that "absolutly evil" At
times, DS9 had very shitty writting too.

Dramatic stuff like this is part of what made DS9 so good.

Technically Dax survives through to the end (symbiont). Jadzia dies (host).

Actually, he doesn't die, but is consigned to spend eternity with the Pah
Wraiths. I don't know if this is explicitly stated, but I do remember one
of the show's producers (possibly Ron Moore) stating this. The idea was
that he could potentially be brought back as a nemesis if there were to ever
be a DS9 movie. It also karmically balances Sisko going to be with the
Prophets.
As to why everyone hates him.....duh, he ran DS9 when it was Terok Nor, the
Cardassian prison labor facility during the Bajoran Occupation. He was
responsible for the deaths of countless Bajorans. Reason enough.....

No, you have shitty writing. DS9 was one of the most layered and intricate
shows in sci-fi, and arguably all of TV, history. You obviously missed the
fact that the show operated as an integrated whole, and that many things,
including the death of Jadzia and the absolute evil of Dukat, were threads
in a very large tapestry.

Um, no. In one episode, he portrayed himself as a spiritual leader modeled
after Jim Jones, but never a character of any sort of honor.

I once read that the major political conflicts in DS9 (cardassia/bajor, etc)
were based on world history. I think there was an analogy to WWII or
something. Does anyone else remember hearing this?

Cody guy, come down it was a tv show afterall. I just asked about gul dukat
and if you agree that hours of Bjoran dumb prophets and Kira's whining and
bitching about them was "super great writing" compared to the rest of the
DS9, then you are something else. And again, "absolute evil of Dukat", oh
please.

Kira hates Dukat with good reason ; her people were at war with the

That's Star Trek for you. Cardassians were the bad guys. and you have to
dislike the bad guys, don't you (goes for any TV show).

No I was answering the "I've I am just currently watching all of the DS9
episodes, right now on *mid season 6*.....does he (Gul Dukat) ever get
killed in any of the episodes" question with all the attention it deserves.

But seriously, don't you agree that Garek the cardassian was more helpful to
the federation vs. cardassia? Simple question and so far what I have seen
from the DS9, he was was rather a good cardassian from Starfleet's point of
view, helping the federation, Sisko and even dukat's daughter.

It not that hard, Garek is a Cardassian that has been exiled from Cardassia
living in the Federation, thus it was not to his advantage to work against
the Federation and Bajor. Much like early American history, an Englishman
living in the colonies after the revolution would hardly be a Loyalist and
if he was it would not be to his advantage to advertise the fact.

| Dax died [message #117071 ] |

Well, I just saw the season 6 final episode, tears of the prophets, where
Dax died.
The dead was pretty shallow and unexplained, sort of like Lt. Yar's death in
TNG, except I actually liked Dax a lot more.
Just before that in the episode "her voice" I saw the DS9 crew spend 5
minutes, everyone from Bashir to O'brien talk about some woman they never
knew, paid her respects, yet no one said anything about Dax, not even for a
second. Fucking dissapointing, the writers should have cut one of the battle
scence instead, but no, they didn't. You'd expect the producers to have a
scene about mourning and so forth for a staff member who worked with them
for 6 years, but no, very shallow. And Sisko, wow, his little 2 minute
monologue was quite pointless as well, when he could have spent those two
mins praising and remembering a great crewman and friend, he instead had to
tell us prolongly that he has to leave and bring the stupid prophets back.
Seriously, you'd expect the prophets to be able to put some ultra super
great force field to protect themselves, after being able to create worm
holes and exist as some sort of energy enteties.

If the writers had gotten some more notice that Terry Farrell
was leaving the show they probably could have written her a more
heroic death and focused more on it than they did. But as it
was they had already planned out the season ender and had to
find some way to fit her death into it, and they had to do it in
a way in which the symbiont would still survive. Considering
the circumstances I think they did a pretty decent job.
And not to give away anything, but they do deal with the
reprecussions of her death quite a bit in the 7th season.

How dare you not love the way Yar's death was handled! It had us all in
tears and shock when we first saw it. It was done incedibly well. As for
Dax.... I think the writers punished us all because she didn't sign on
again. If you see any of the flashback retrosectives after she left, she's
hardly in the picture.

Dax didn't die, it just shed the useless husk of a host that was carrying
it.

OK, agreed, Garak is fine - I liked him as a character....and Quark as
well - even though he's a villain - a likeable villain --, and not really
like the other Ferengi in TNG for instance.
Quark, Rom and Nog are OK.....
But Dukat - pure evil and that's without the Pah-Wraith's influence.
Evil by name and by nature.

Some nit picking here: but pure 100% evil? Don't tell me that he didn't show
any compassion towards his daughter. After all, if he was pure evil, he
would have killed her when he found her, whether or not Kira was there. To
me, yes he is a pretty bad guy, but not the most evil character ever. Could
have killed Sisko too when their shuttle went down and Sisko was unconsious.
What about the founders, seriously I was just thinking about it, and they
are really freaking evil. P.S. Almost finished watching season 7. You guys
were right, the show is not so simple, I have to say I loved the whole
concept of a stationary space station where the action mostly unfolds, and
continually too.
